Lumpy jaw is a chronic, infectious disease of cattle caused by suppurative granulation of the bones of the head. It causes painless bony swellings on the mandible that can break through the skin and discharge pus. Severe cases can cause salivation, difficulty chewing, and reduced appetite. Treatment involves intravenous injections of sodium iodide, followed by a course of antibiotics like streptomycin injections. Surgery may also be used to treat large growths.
