Stella and Will both have cystic fibrosis (CF) and are patients at the same hospital. Due to their condition, CF patients are supposed to stay at least six feet apart to prevent spreading infections. Stella and Will become close emotionally despite this rule, making their physical separation difficult. Their story explores the challenges of two teenagers with CF forming a connection while adhering to medical guidelines for their rare lung disease.

Main Characters
Stella
Stella Her name is Stella Grant. The hospital is her second home. Her lungs are sending her in and out of the hospital. She needs to have a distance from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection. SIX FEET APART, NO exceptions.
Will
Will His name is Will Newman. He’s seventeen. When he’ll turn eighteen he’ll be able to unplug himself from all these machines and actually live his life. All these years he hasn’t seen the world and now is finally the time.
Their story Stella Grant is a teenager with a very un-teenage life. She suffers from cystic fibrosis (CF), a disease which causes her lungs to fill with fluid, making it difficult to breathe. Her constant trips to the hospital have created a life separate from her peers, with activities much different from those of a typical teenager. Will Newman also has CF. He is new in the hospital and is immediately interested in Stella. CF patients are supposed to stay at least six feet apart from one another to prevent the spreading of germs that could lead to cross-contamination and infection. Stella gets to know Will, and the closer they become emotionally, the harder it is to stay physically apart.
Some words about cystic fibrosis Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body. Although cystic fibrosis is progressive and requires daily care, people with CF are usually able to attend school and work. They often have a better quality of life than people with CF had in previous decades. Improvements in screening and treatments mean that people with CF now may live into their mid- to late 30s or 40s, and some are living into their 50s.
