LESSON
IN SCIENCE 6
Teacher:Maressa B. Gumalang
Objectives:
1. The learner is able to determine the uses of
simple machines.
2. The learner is able to describe the
characteristics of simple machines.
3. The learner should be able to identify the
different types of simple machines.
Hello kids! Let
us sing a song
first!
Let’s try to check your skills in
our past lesson.
Directions: Read the
statements carefully. If
the statement is correct
you say HEPHEP and
HORRAY if it is wrong.
1. Work is a form of energy.
What is the
answer?
VERY
GOOD!
2. Heat is always produced in energy
transformation. What is the
answer?
VERY
GOOD!
3. Energy is the ability to do work.
What is the
answer?
VERY
GOOD!
4. Digestion of food is an example of radiant
energy. What is the
answer?
VERY GOOD!
5. Kinetic energy is energy in motion.
What is the
answer?

Let us find the hidden
word. To open each box
we have to tell the kind
of energy is shown in
each picture.

Discussion of
Simple Machines
One of the most important
reasons why us human
beings had become the
most successful species on
Earth is due to our mastery
of tools and simple
machines.
Simple machines are
tools that make work
easier. It allows the
user to accomplish
more work while
expending less energy
Pulley – consists of a string
or rope wrapped around a
wheel with one end of the
string attached to an object
and the other end attached
to a person or a motor.
A pulley is used to lift
something up specially to
lift the heavy objects. An
effort is a part of pulley
where the force is applied
and the load is the object
which is being applied by
the force exerted.
PULLEY
Examples: window blinds, flagpoles,
zipline, crane
Lever - a device consisting the
fixed movable point called the
fulcrum, a force that lifts the
load called effort and the force
that is being lifted by the effort
called load.
Lever make it
easier to lift
heavy materials,
remove tight
objects and cut
items.
LEVER
Examples: broom, bottle opener,
can opener, seesaw, scissors
Wedge - a double inclined
plane that is sharpened to an
end. It can be used to separate
two objects or portions of an
object, lift an object, or hold
an object in place.
The thinner the
wedge is, the
lesser effort is
needed to cut
objects.
WEDGE
Examples: fork, knife, peeler, nail,
pin, needle
Wheel and Axle – consists of a
round disk, known as a wheel,
with a rod through the center
of it, known as the axle. It is a
type of lever that moves in a
circle around a fulcrum.
It has many uses
in our daily lives.
Cars, pencil
sharpeners, fans,
and in-line skates
all use the wheel
and axle.
WHEEL AND
AXLE
Examples: electric fan, doorknob,
wheelbarrow, pushcart
Inclined Plane – a flat surface
with one end higher than the
other. It allows for heavy objects
to slide up to a higher point
rather than be lifted. It has a
sloping surface used to lift an
object.
Lifting the
object using an
inclined plane
means you use
less force to do
work.
INCLINED
PLANE
Examples: ladder, stairs, slanted
roof, ramp, slide
Screw – a simple machine
with threaded surface and
a point on one end and a
slotted head which holds
or fasten two things
together
The spiral ridges
are referred to as
thread and the
distance each
thread is referred
to as pitch.
SCREW
Examples: jar lid, light bulb,
bottle caps, faucet
What are the
different simple
machines?
It is Maria’s first day in her job
as a saleslady. Her task is to
put kid’s shoes on the high
part of the shelf.
What simple machine can
Maria use to make her task
easier?
Deal or No Deal
LET’S PLAY
Directions: You say DEAL if the
statement is correct and
NO DEAL if is not correct.

answer?
9. A screw is a simple machine with threaded
surface and a point on one end and a slotted
head which holds or fasten two things
together
VERY GOOD!
What is your
answer?
10. Using a pulley make it easiest to move a
heavy object from the ground to the third
floor of the house
Le’s read
what is
written in
the letter.
