This study investigated drug use patterns among inmates in Jos Prison, Nigeria between 2010-2014. The study found that inmates most commonly used caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana. More youths were found to use drugs, and more inmates were admitted for treatment in 2010, likely due to sectarian violence in Jos that year. The study recommended that Nigerian prisons recruit more mental health professionals to manage rising psychoactive drug use among inmates and involve parents in rehabilitation efforts.
