OCCUPATIONAL
HEALTH AND
SAFETY
It deals with all aspects of
health and safety in the
workplace and has a strong
focus on primary
prevention of hazards.“
The goals of occupational
safety and health programs
include fostering a safe and
healthy work environment.
SAFETY
It is the state of being “SAFE”.
The condition of being protected against physical,
social, spiritual, financial, political, emotional,
occupational, psychological, educational, or other
types or consequences of failure, damage, error,
accidents, harm, or any other event which could
be considered non-desirable.
ACCIDENT
An accident or
a mishap is an
unforeseen and
unplanned event or
circumstance, often with
a lack of intention
or necessity.
RISK
 is the chance,
high or low that
any hazard will
cause somebody
harm.
HAZARD
is something that can
cause harm, e.g.,
electricity, chemicals,
working up a ladder,
noise, a keyboard, a
bully at work, stress
etc.

occupational hazard caused
by exposure to chemicals in
the workplace. Exposure to
chemicals in the workplace
can cause acute or long-term
detrimental health effects.

3. ERGONOMIC HAZARD
 An ergonomic hazard is a
physical factor within the
environment that harms
the musculoskeletal
system. Ergonomic hazards
include themes such as
repetitive movement,
manual handling,
workplace/job/task design,
uncomfortable workstation
height, and poor body
positioning.
4. PSYCHOLOGICAL HAZARD
A psychosocial hazard is any
occupational hazard that
affects
the psychological well-being
of workers, including their
ability to participate in a
work environment among
other people.
 Bullying, Stress, sexual
harassment, etc.
