Candidate Examination Guidelines-
April 2023 Term End Exam
Examination Duration:-
• Post Graduate Diploma, MBA distance, and Diploma programs:- 2 Hours 30 Minutes (150 Minutes)
• Certificate and Advanced Certificate Program:- 2 Hours (120 minutes).
Important Details:-
• This examination is conducted online via Mettl platform (NMIMS’s official assessment partner) and will be remotely
proctored.
• Please log in timely for the exam. Students won't be able to take the exam if they don't log in within 15 minutes of the
exam's start time. If your exam slot is at 9 am, for example, you can only join up until 9.15 am and not later.
• You only have 15 minutes to rejoin if you disconnect for any reason during your exam. You won't be allowed to take
the exam under any circumstances if the time is more than 15 minutes.
• If a student doesn’t submit the exam, as per the prescribed duration, then the system will auto-submit the
examination.
• To conduct the examination at your location, kindly make sure that your infrastructure (system/internet/power) is fully
prepared. RESCHEDULE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
• If you perceive technical, infrastructure, or internet problems at your location, you may choose to visit our campus to
conduct your examination. Seats will be allocated subject to availability.
• Students who are found to be involved in any form of Unfair Means Practise or violate the Exam Code of Conduct in
the upcoming Apr’23 exams will be required to take their future examinations (for 3 consecutive examination
cycles) at a University designated location, under close supervision.
• It is mandatory to disable any spell check/ grammar parsing apps like Grammarly etc., installed in your system, as it will
interfere with the exam application.
• Minimum speed = > 2 MBPS
• Make sure there are no limitations or blocks on the network for the Mettl portal (especially check the office network or
laptop).
• Allow all access from the network to *.mettl.com
• Additionally, for a seamless experience, kindly permit all access to the domain listed below.

• Opening these ports will make the service faster and more efficient while giving you better quality images.
• It is mandatory to disable any spell check/ grammar parsing apps like Grammarly etc., installed in your system, as it
will interfere with the exam application.

• Avoid using safari or any other browser for a seamless experience with the exam
portal.
• Mettl Proctored Assessments are not supported on mobile devices (e.g. Cell phones
/Smartphones / Pads / Tablets).
Demo Examination & Compatibility Test :-
• It is crucial to comply with the requirements of the compatibility check and demo exams at least 24
hours before every examination. System compatibility tests on the new system must be done if you
change your computer system.

Contact when:-
• Not able to access the exam link using Student portal.
• When the exam link is not visible on the portal as per exam registration
• For any reason not able to appear for exams (Non-technical issues).
• Mettl was not able to resolve the issue and you were not able to appear for the exams
 University reserves the right to impose penalties on students
marked under Unfair Means during the Term End Exam.
 If any act of the students indicates a violation of the Exam Code
of Conduct (COC) or adoption of Unfair means (UFM), the
University may impose a penalty leading to the performance of
the subject appeared as Null and Void and/or rustication and/or
attempting next exam cycle from centre only.
 Students who are found to be involved in any form of Unfair
Means Practice or violate the Exam Code of Conduct in the
upcoming Apr’23 exams will be required to take their future
examinations (for 3 consecutive examination cycles) at a
University designated location, under close supervision.
 If any student is found under Impersonation (someone else
attempting the exam instead of the registered student), the
University has the authority to rusticate/suspend the student.
 Exam disconnections are closely monitored, and if they occur
more than three times during the same test, you will be marked
under Unfair Mean (UFM) and the examination will be deemed
as NULL & VOID.
 If students do not observe the guidelines, they will be marked
under the below category:-
1. Apparently, someone else is present in the examination room
guiding the students for answers
2. The Candidate has left the room
3. The Candidate is using external reference material/mobile
phone to search for answers
4. Someone else is taking the test - Student Impersonation.
5. The student is sharing the screen using an external application.
6. Indiscipline :-
 Candidate has left the exam environment during the examination
 Exam on mute/using earphones during the examination
 In spite of the repeated warnings, the students face was not
visible/ partially visible in the camera.
 Student has deliberately covered the camera during examination
(repeated instance)
 Student is consuming food or smoking during the examination
 Student is interacting with someone present during the exam
(conversation unrelated to exam)
 Student is reading the questions loudly, in spite of repeated
warnings
 The candidate is looking away from the exam screen, in spite of
repeated warnings.
 Use of offensive or profane language during the examination
 The candidate is covering his or her mouth with his
hand/handkerchief, In spite of repeated warnings.
We urge you to refer to the detailed guidelines on the UFM and COC
protocol uploaded in the Student Portal (announcement section).
Login to Student portal
As you login to the student zone, you will find your upcoming exams displayed on top of your dashboard. Click on Start exam,
this will go live on the day of exam as per the time slot you have booked.
Start your Exam
Click on the ‘Start Exam’ button to start your exam. You will also see link to access Compatibility and Demo exam (this is
optional), you can directly click on “Start exam”

As you click on the exam start button, you will be directed to the Mettl platform (NMIMS exam partner). Click on
‘Proceed’ to begin with your exam
A system check is run automatically in the background to check the system compatibility for the test
Start test on your browser
Permission to share camera and microphone
on Chrome and Firefox
After successful system compatibility check, click ‘Allow’ button on the pop-up displayed on the top left corner of your
screen to enable the webcam and microphone permissions on your system.

Enable the Screen Share Permission by following the step sequence:
- Click ‘Start Screen Capture’ button as shown below.
- A pop-up will appear, select your entire screen by selecting the window as displayed, click ‘Share’ button.
Proceed to the next step
After screen sharing is enabled, click ‘Proceed’ button.
Please Note:
- Turn off all the notifications on your computer during the test.
- Do not switch between the test window and other applications/tabs on your system, this may lead to a warning or
disqualification from the test.
Step 1: Capture an image of your face
Capture an image of your face by sitting in an upright position in front of the camera and click on CAPTURE
YOUR FACE tab. A white border line is provided for your convenience.
If you are satisfied with the captured image, click on the Proceed tab to proceed to the next step.
Else, if you are not satisfied with the captured image, it is blurred or unclear, you may click on RECAPTURE YOUR FACE tab to
proceed further.
Recapture your face
Capture an image of your any College ID card/Government ID card by clicking on CAPTURE YOUR ID CARD tab. A
white border line is provided for your convenience.
Step 2: Capture an image of your ID Card
If you are satisfied with the captured image, click on SUBMIT tab.
Else, if you are not satisfied with the captured image, it is blurred or the details on it are unclear, you may click
on RECAPTURE YOUR ID CARD tab.

Start your test
Post getting successfully authorized you would land on the page as shown in the above snapshot and would get the
choice of selecting the section from which you would like to start the test with.
Check the radio button against the section name and click on START TEST tab to start with the questions of the selected
section.
Your test is proctored!
A consent would be taken from you before you start attempting the questions informing you that your complete test
would be monitored, and any activity of the candidate or the candidate’s screen will be logged. The permission window
would be in form of a pop-up.

remaining test time left, displayed on
top right corner of test window.
Adjust Font – You can adjust the size of your
font by clicking the setting button present on
the top right corner of test window.

the theme of your test by clicking
the setting button present on the
top right corner of your test
window.

Next Question tab –
You can switch between the questions by clicking:
• 'Previous’/‘Next’ button.
• Using arrow keys displayed on your test screen.
• Using the question palette displayed at the top
center of the test screen.
Overall Question Status – It is color coded and displays
the status of question. It can be accessed by clicking the
‘pie chart’ button as shown in the sample picture. The
color code is as follow:
• All Questions – Black color
• Revisited Questions – Orange color
• Attempted Questions – Blue color
• Un-attempted Questions – Grey color
Revisit option to help you mark a question
that can be reviewed later before finishing
the test. The questions marked as revisit
appears in orange color in the question
palette as shown.

Floating Calculator depending on the
assessment type, can be accessed on the
center console of the screen as shown
Section switch drop-down on the top left corner; in
case you have multiple sections in your test.
1. Lock button – The section is locked, and responses
cannot be modified.
2. Percentage Completion – Displays the percentage
of section completed.
Report an issue on a question
An icon and label next to the question count will
be coming as shown.
A pop over will open as shown on the image after
clicking on the “Report a Problem” text.
What can you do?
• Provide multiple issues for a question multiple
times. Each you submit the issues for a question, the
reported issues will be updated.
• See the raised issues on clicking the “Report a
Problem” label again.

Submission of the examination
Once the candidate clicks on the FINISH TEST the system would display a final summary of the attempted questions where
the candidate can choose to either go back to make any changes or finally submit the entire test by clicking on Yes,
End Test.

  • 6.  University reserves the right to impose penalties on students marked under Unfair Means during the Term End Exam.  If any act of the students indicates a violation of the Exam Code of Conduct (COC) or adoption of Unfair means (UFM), the University may impose a penalty leading to the performance of the subject appeared as Null and Void and/or rustication and/or attempting next exam cycle from centre only.  Students who are found to be involved in any form of Unfair Means Practice or violate the Exam Code of Conduct in the upcoming Apr’23 exams will be required to take their future examinations (for 3 consecutive examination cycles) at a University designated location, under close supervision.  If any student is found under Impersonation (someone else attempting the exam instead of the registered student), the University has the authority to rusticate/suspend the student.  Exam disconnections are closely monitored, and if they occur more than three times during the same test, you will be marked under Unfair Mean (UFM) and the examination will be deemed as NULL & VOID.  If students do not observe the guidelines, they will be marked under the below category:- 1. Apparently, someone else is present in the examination room guiding the students for answers 2. The Candidate has left the room 3. The Candidate is using external reference material/mobile phone to search for answers 4. Someone else is taking the test - Student Impersonation. 5. The student is sharing the screen using an external application. 6. Indiscipline :-  Candidate has left the exam environment during the examination  Exam on mute/using earphones during the examination  In spite of the repeated warnings, the students face was not visible/ partially visible in the camera.  Student has deliberately covered the camera during examination (repeated instance)  Student is consuming food or smoking during the examination  Student is interacting with someone present during the exam (conversation unrelated to exam)  Student is reading the questions loudly, in spite of repeated warnings  The candidate is looking away from the exam screen, in spite of repeated warnings.  Use of offensive or profane language during the examination  The candidate is covering his or her mouth with his hand/handkerchief, In spite of repeated warnings. We urge you to refer to the detailed guidelines on the UFM and COC protocol uploaded in the Student Portal (announcement section).

  • 8. Login to Student portal As you login to the student zone, you will find your upcoming exams displayed on top of your dashboard. Click on Start exam, this will go live on the day of exam as per the time slot you have booked.
  • 9. Start your Exam Click on the ‘Start Exam’ button to start your exam. You will also see link to access Compatibility and Demo exam (this is optional), you can directly click on “Start exam”
  • 10. Start your Exam As you click on the exam start button, you will be directed to the Mettl platform (NMIMS exam partner). Click on ‘Proceed’ to begin with your exam
  • 11. A system check is run automatically in the background to check the system compatibility for the test Start test on your browser
  • 12. Permission to share camera and microphone on Chrome and Firefox After successful system compatibility check, click ‘Allow’ button on the pop-up displayed on the top left corner of your screen to enable the webcam and microphone permissions on your system.
  • 13. Permission to share the screen Enable the Screen Share Permission by following the step sequence: - Click ‘Start Screen Capture’ button as shown below. - A pop-up will appear, select your entire screen by selecting the window as displayed, click ‘Share’ button.
  • 14. Proceed to the next step After screen sharing is enabled, click ‘Proceed’ button. Please Note: - Turn off all the notifications on your computer during the test. - Do not switch between the test window and other applications/tabs on your system, this may lead to a warning or disqualification from the test.
  • 15. Step 1: Capture an image of your face Capture an image of your face by sitting in an upright position in front of the camera and click on CAPTURE YOUR FACE tab. A white border line is provided for your convenience.
  • 16. If you are satisfied with the captured image, click on the Proceed tab to proceed to the next step. Else, if you are not satisfied with the captured image, it is blurred or unclear, you may click on RECAPTURE YOUR FACE tab to proceed further. Recapture your face

Start your test Post getting successfully authorized you would land on the page as shown in the above snapshot and would get the choice of selecting the section from which you would like to start the test with. Check the radio button against the section name and click on START TEST tab to start with the questions of the selected section.
  • 20. Your test is proctored! A consent would be taken from you before you start attempting the questions informing you that your complete test would be monitored, and any activity of the candidate or the candidate’s screen will be logged. The permission window would be in form of a pop-up.
  • 21. Test Window Details Test Time – Displays the overall remaining test time left, displayed on top right corner of test window. Adjust Font – You can adjust the size of your font by clicking the setting button present on the top right corner of test window. Change Theme – You can change the theme of your test by clicking the setting button present on the top right corner of your test window.

Test Window Details Next Question tab – You can switch between the questions by clicking: • 'Previous’/‘Next’ button. • Using arrow keys displayed on your test screen. • Using the question palette displayed at the top center of the test screen. Overall Question Status – It is color coded and displays the status of question. It can be accessed by clicking the ‘pie chart’ button as shown in the sample picture. The color code is as follow: • All Questions – Black color • Revisited Questions – Orange color • Attempted Questions – Blue color • Un-attempted Questions – Grey color Revisit option to help you mark a question that can be reviewed later before finishing the test. The questions marked as revisit appears in orange color in the question palette as shown.

Floating Calculator depending on the assessment type, can be accessed on the center console of the screen as shown Section switch drop-down on the top left corner; in case you have multiple sections in your test. 1. Lock button – The section is locked, and responses cannot be modified. 2. Percentage Completion – Displays the percentage of section completed.
  • 24. Report an issue on a question An icon and label next to the question count will be coming as shown. A pop over will open as shown on the image after clicking on the “Report a Problem” text. What can you do? • Provide multiple issues for a question multiple times. Each you submit the issues for a question, the reported issues will be updated. • See the raised issues on clicking the “Report a Problem” label again.
