  1. 1. 2014 TEEN DATING VIOLENCE AWARENESS & PREVENTION POSTER CONTEST FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL Dear Teachers: The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund is pleased to announce its 2014 Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Poster Contest for Rhode Island middle school students. The due date for entries is May 1, 2014. The theme “Qualities of a Healthy Relationship” focuses on one or more qualities of healthy relationships (equality, respect, trust, honesty, fairness, compromise, caring, supportive, respects boundaries & decisions, open communication). www.loveisrespect.org may be useful as a resource. Given the alarming teen dating violence statistics, it is essential to educate teens about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. Education provides our teens with the essential knowledge and skills necessary to determine if their relationships are healthy or abusive, and to help themselves and others. Education is a key factor in decreasing the incidence of teen dating violence. The month of February is designated as National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. We are sponsoring this poster contest as a means of raising awareness of teen dating violence during the month of February. The Grand Prize winner will receive $100.00 and 2 Runners Up will receive $50.00 each. Winners will be notified in May. Contest rules and Registration Form appear on the back of this letter. All posters must have a completed Registration Form on the back of their entry. Feel free to make additional copies of the Rules. They can also be found on our website www.labmf.org. Please encourage your students to enter this poster contest and feel free to share this with your colleagues. Be sure to tell students to read the rules carefully, especially in regards to the theme and spelling, so as not to be disqualified. Remind students we choose posters that can be clearly read from a distance, as they will be hung on a wall. The theme or title (or shortened/modified version) should appear on poster as well. Students should visit our website for examples of previous winning posters. Teachers: please assist your students with following the rules, especially spelling. NO SPELLING ERRORS and words should be clear and legible, not tiny; otherwise, poster may be disqualified regardless of the artwork/message. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely, Christopher F. Burke Executive Director P.O.
