Chapter 12 presentation

  1. 1.  Definition: Sensation. Word Building:Anesthesia – Lack of sensations.Hyperesthesia – Excessive sensations.
  2. 2.  Anesthesia: Often a drug used in surgery to block the pain of an operation. Another example is the use of an Epidural during labor. Hyperesthesia: Can be caused by operations as a side-effect. My Lasik surgery sometimes causes me to have hyperesthesia to light.

  4. 4.  Definition: Paralysis, usually in the extremities. Word Building:Monoplegia – Paralysis of one.Paraplegia – Paralysis of the lower extremities.Hemiplegia – Paralysis of one side (Right or Left) of the body.Quadriplegia – Paralysis of four.
  5. 5.  Paraplegia can be caused by traumatic injuries to the brain or spinal cord. Hemiplegia can be caused by removing half of the brain. Or a rare congenital disorder covered in this article: e-455855/My-little-girl-born-half- brain.html
  6. 6.  Quadriplegia usually caused by traumatic injuries to the brain or spinal cord and sometimes during surgery. Monoplegia can be caused by a pinched nerve or another injury.
