How does your media productrepresent particular socialgroups?
Social Groups - TeenagersTeenagers and young adults are focused a lot in mymagazine and they are presented as being clean cut andhappy, opposed to what the media project about teenagers. The media like to speculate that teenagers are trouble andthat they’re not one to trust, that many of them sleep into theafternoon and that they drink underage, with all of thisinformation that is supported by all the bad things that gowrong in all different areas in the uk, teenagers are given abad name and they shouldn’t be. There is no reason for mymagazine to copy that vision of a teenager because for one itis not true for all teens and it looks bad on a cover. Althoughon my front cover and various other pages, graffiti is shownand that is usually connected to teens in their adolescenttime in their lives. On the other hand graffiti is also connectedto ‘Banksy’ a street artist who passes onmessages about the society we live in and all the bad events and messages connected to our country. Based on what ithink about the teenagers of our time and how i have presented them is a very different way as i myself am a teenager ithink i have a good idea of who is around me and how they act. The fact that i am a teenager also lets me have a betterconnection to the audience in this case would be teenagers. The way the teenagers who modeled for my images, posedthey were very slouched which know that i look at it gives the impression that they are lazy, i didnt want this howeverthey are still teenager and that is they way i told them to stand. All different teenagers have their own reputation andwhether it be good or bad, the bad ones should not over shadow the good ones which they do a lot in the media and it’snot fair to the teenagers a this current times who are given a bad name by everyone in the public just because they readone article. In my magazine they are shown as being very independent and successful at a very young age and that canhappen in reality for example the globally known boy band ‘One Direction’ and ‘LittleMix’ are fairly young and highly paidwhich is a good image to give to the other kids of today that you can strive to be successful with a plan on what yourgoals are and how you are going to achieve them.Overall i think that teenager in my magazine are presented very differently to the way they are perceived by the publicand also the press, they should be given more credit and in my magazine it is shown that you can smart and happy whichis the complete opposite of what how the media present them.
Teenagers in MagazinesAs these are different genremusic they may not be the bestfit however for comparing thedifferent social groups beingteenagers they are perfect asboth of the groups of five arerelatively the same age. In‘Billboard’ they are known for allround music genres however theband on the front cover is knownfor pop and because they aresmiling it gives some indicationwithout reading the article orknowing nothing about them, that they are going to be cheesyand into pop ballads. On theother side we have my magazinewhich is much more serious andthe group is mixed gender withplain looks, giving theimpression that the band couldbe known as ‘indie’ or ‘punk’ these two genres are given as looking at past magazines i have picked up a few notes aboutmy music genre magazine type and what is on the front of them.In conclusion i think that teenagers are given a mixed opinion in magazine and some can be good, some can be perceivedas bad.
