2. The name of the magazine is in the usual place it is
expected to be seen on a cover, at the top in bold
writing.
The colours used are mostly blue and white with
touches of red for some headings, I think these colours
chosen go with the image of Johnny Deep. Because of
the way the photo was taken and his clothing he looks
quite cold and icy and i think these colours add to this
effect.
Image- the photo is effective for a magazine front cover
as it catches the audiences eye staright away. I went on
to google to search for magazine covers and this was the
first one that caught my attention. It is the way his eyes
are looking directly at or rather into the camera.
3. • The masthead is in a clear bold font, it is the
first thing that catches the audiences eye due
to color yellow being used. The bright grimy
font is stereotypical of the horror genre.
• The tagline is cleverly made smaller giving the
target audience a reason to looker closer and
find out what the magazine is about.
• The picture used is a girl looking directly into
the readers eye- the green color contrasts
with the surrounding colors of brown and
black making them stand out. The use of a
chaotically painted image and the use of
blood connotes the horror theme.
4. I found while
looking at existing
magazine covers
that the ones which
were more about
monsters and the
supernatural had a
cartoon theme.
On this ‘Dark side
magazine’ uses a
film strip on the side
to give the
magazine a retro
feel.
Following a cartoon
themed cover it
uses the bright
colors of red/
yellow/ white and
black. I found many
horror magazines
uses this same color
scheme but not all.
The use of blood splatters
continue a bloody theme. It is
also a creative way of
highlighting important
information that may have
otherwise been overlooked.
In Horror sex usually means
death and this idea is shown
with a woman with her breasts
on show.
