  • Notes:The concept started around social community. If you knew where your social community was, or liked to go, you might be more likely to go there. Finding your peeps.Finding new places to visit.Tips and tricks on places to visitReviews of what your community thinks about it
  • Gowallaalso launched March 2009 and is backed by some pretty big investors including Greylock.Based out of Austin Texas600K active users as of November 2010 (best numbers I could find)
  • Founded in March 200910 million users worldwide3 million checkins per day500k utilizing the merchant platformRecently announced partnerships with 5 daily deal sites including Living Social
  • Added to the Facebook platform in summer of 20106% of Facebook users are checking inRemoving it from the mobile app and changing the dynamics – actually will be more user friendly and more power social graph information we will get into that more in a few
  • In researching for this presentation I came across this chart. It is very interesting and illustrates many of the pros for utilizing geolocation but at the same time illustrates for me some of my struggles/concerns with geolocation.
  • Impacts where I shopLook for places to eat when I am in a new areaCOUPONS!!Reviews- see what our friends think of new places we are considering checking out
  • The orange flags indicating a “Special Offer” are what engage me about foursquare. Special Offer Nearby is another one!
  • BRIAN SFINAS TO NARRATE
  • Removed the check-in feature from the mobile appNow you can check-in and tag people both historically and currentlyChecking in appears to be evolving to where you will tag your location and and tag people you are with in the update that you chose to do.You will be able to add locations historically to pictures you have already loaded. This is actually a powerful move for Facebook. For people to start tagging locations historically, it will add a lot more data to the already powerful social graph.
  • Facebook has added the ability to have parent / child pages. This is applicable for franchise or multiple locations.
  • While the mobile check-in feature is going away people will still have the ability to tag locations in their posts. Businesses should be sure they have claimed their venue or created their venue. This is true even for B2B and industrial companies.
