TYPES OF GRID MAPS 1.      ALPHANUMERIC GRID – a grid that uses letters (alpha) and numbers (numeric) to identify squares of a grid pattern on a map. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 A B C Example Shown D5 D E F 2.      MILITARY GRID – a series of vertical (up and down lines) and horizontal (side to side lines) on a map that can be used to locate any place on the map, using DOUBLE digits (02,12,58) to represent each line FOUR DIGIT GRIDS – identifies on square of the grid on a map (remember to read to the bottom right first then read up > ^ ) 30 The co-ordinates of the black ↑ 29 square are reading right of the 28 horizontal line 08 27 Now reading up the vertical line 26 29 Answer is 0829 04 05 06 07 08 09 → SIX DIGIT GRIDS – identifies an exact point or spot on the grid The co-ordinates of the dot are  ∙ 30 29 broken down into 10 dashes in the one square, going both 28 horizontally and vertically 27 26 Look below to see the square 0829 enlarged 04 05 06 07 08 09 Count the number of dashes from 08 going to the RIGHT first ( 7 dashes ) Now count the number of dashes from29 going UP ( 3 dashes ) The answer is 087 293 ↑ 29 08 →
