Theirservices include video surveillancemonitoring, analyzing, andgenerating relevant video content tobuild supporting evidence for theircustomers. However, accuratetagging and synchronizing of eventswithin surveillance video feeds was atime consuming and arduous task. Moreover, the cost of litigation wasmuch higher than cost of surveillancemonitoring. With an intention to cater thesechallenges, the client approachedSigma Infosolutions to develop acustomized and innovative videotagging solution which could help theclient redefine their valueproposition in the litigation supportservices industry.Based in the US, the client is a premier provider of litigation and businessconsultation services to the worlds leading law firms, Fortune 500companies, government agencies as well as private and public sectorindustries. With experts such as economists, statisticians, analysts, andother professionals, the client provide services for litigation and otherconsulting matters that require statistical, analytical, and functionalexpertise. One of their areas of specialization is building litigation casesthrough video evidence prepared through surveillance feeds. The ClientExecutive SummaryTo build credible evidence, the client had to review and analyze hours ofsurveillance feed from numerous cameras. They worked on a manual systemof viewing the recording, followed by analyzing and tagging the pre-decidedevents, and finally saving these video clips separately for further editing andsynchronization. This time consuming process was extremely resourceintensive and would require days and sometimes even months for the clientto put together credible video evidence. In order to improve the efficiency of this analysis process, and therebyimprove the subsequent litigation process, the client partnered with SigmaInfosolutions to develop an automated video tagging and analysis solutionthat reduced the time for the client to prepare video content by as much as90%.Business Casesales@sigmainfo.netChallengesVideo evidence is critical to any litigation. Many lawyers would work on alitigation case simultaneously. Therefore to maximize efficacy, theapplication needed to be very user-friendly and intuitive. As a litigation support services provider, the client had to review and analyzethousands of hours of video feed. It was a challenge to make the solutionscalable enough to handle future needs of large data analysis, as well asensure the feeds are secure and tamper proof. The tagging instanceschanged with each case and hence the application needed the flexibility forcustomization of tagging instances and events.Ultra light, portable, andplug-and-playapplicationwith nopre-processing“
  3. 3. Technology .NET components MySQL 5.0 database used forstorage. Compatible with MicrosoftSQL Server & Oracle Highly Optimized .NET DB -Connection pooling for extensibilityand scalabilityBusiness BenefitsThe video tagging and analysis solutiondrastically reduced the manualintervention in the review process, thereby improving the operationalefficiency and effectiveness of itsprocess. A centralized database madecustomized reporting and other videoanalytics requirements by themanagement more efficient. Some of the specific areas of impact ithad on the client were: Reduced video review and retrievaltime by nearly 90%, therebyreducing time for preparation ofcase Cost effective system of videosurveillance analysis Improved effectiveness of videoanalysis by minimizing gap insynchronization of events Enabled work breakdown i.e.tagging by less skilled people, review by more skilled people andanalysis by highly skilled people. Readily available evidence displaysystemSolutionSigma Infosolutions team worked closely with the client to design thearchitecture for efficient tagging of video feeds. This architecture was thencoded from scratch on the Microsoft Platform. The application provided a multi-camera input so that the user could tagmultiple videos together. Later, he could simply collate all feedscorresponding to a specific event and build the content. He could even pausethe entire process and pick up where he left off at a later time. The application enabled the user to up to 12 camera feeds simultaneously ata single instance. 5 such different color-coded zones were included and therewas a provision for further expansion. In effect, the user could work with 60camera feeds simultaneously. The user could zoom in to a selected camerafeed and also take snapshots, whenever required.Tagging instances or events could be created even during the taggingactivity. There were different playback speeds in the scales of 1/8x, 1/4x &1/2x for slow-motion video, as well as 2x, 4x & 8x for fast playback. Apartfrom this there were in-built multiple playback options for various videoformats and the application also allowed searching, sorting and auditingfeatures. The application was a lightweight application was so that the selected videocould be carried to the courtroom for evidence purposes during a depositionor trial. Since these tagged and sorted videos had to be played and analyzedat multiple locations other than at the clients office, a feature of remotelyplaying the videos was also built into the solution. Moreover the solutionenabled instant playback of needed video feeds in the desired sequence tostrongly present a case in the courtroom. Since the clients customers havevaried requirements in video analysis for litigation support, this solution wasalso built with capabilities to add new features as and when required.www.sigmainfo.net
