  3. 3. Find the DatabaseFrom the Library homepage, click on “Find databases” onthe right corner. 3
  4. 4. Find the DatabaseIn the “Search for a database Databases”, type in“ProQuest Education Journals” and click “Search” .1 4
  5. 5. Find the DatabaseClick on the link “ProQuest Education Journals” to thedatabase* .*Note: A new window will pop up and you’ll be asked to enteryour QUT username and password to sign in the database. 5

Basic Search Enter the search terms in the Search box and click on Use quotation marks (“ “) to search for the words as a phraseLimit Nsearches to View lists offull text or publications,peer- details onreviewed* coverage, andjournals search within desired titles. *Note: Peer reviewed publications are journals that require the articles to be evaluated by a panel of experts before they are published. 6
  7. 7. Advanced SearchEnter the search terms and click on “Search”. Use quotation marks (“ “) to search for the words as a phrase Change these fields to broaden or narrow your results 7

Advanced Search Boolean search operators AND OR NOT cats dogs cats dogs cats dogscats AND dogs  find a resource with both words in itcats OR dogs  find resources that have just the word “cat”, just the word “dog”,and also resources with both wordscats NOT dogs  find resources that have “cats”, but eliminates the resourceswith the word “dogs” cats (cats felines OR felines) AND dogs  the computer will do what is inside the bracketsfirst (the OR), then sort these results with the AND included dogs1 8

Search Results You will find that some articles are available in full-text, while others have only an abstract or citation.Mark - to save,print, email, or Hit-term highlighting Preview - tostore item quickly view the record Sort by relevance / date Image/Chart display Narrow results by source type or more When a full-text article is available you may have the choice of viewing it in HTML or PDF format 10
