3. 3. Teens With Leukemia

In the year 2000 approximately

256,000 children and adults had some type of leukemia .

 4. 4. Treatment for leukemia

Chemotherapy –the use of cancer-killing drugs put into the fluid around the brain and spinal chord.

Radiation-the use of high-energy rays to make tumors smaller and stop the cancer cells from growing.

Bone Marrow Transplant-healthy bone marrow is introduced into the body.

 6. 6. What does it mean that a cell is cancerous?

They have genetic mutations

They reproduce very quickly

They don’t stick together

They don’t die if they move to another part of the body

 7. 7. How does cancer spread so quickly?

It spreads quickly

because cancer cells

never stop reproducing.

Interphase-the cell chromosomes duplicate

Mitosis begins.

Prophase-the spindle is beginning to form and the chromatid pairs are now visible.

Metaphase- chromatid pairs are lined up in the center of the cell.

Anaphase-the chromosomes have separated.

Telophase- In the final step the cytoplasm is beginning to separate.

Mitosis ends.
