Issues<br />The India’s second number largest and longest holy river Yamuna had crossed the danger water level of 204.83 meters on Friday evening 20th August 2010 by following heavy rains. <br />The water level in Yamuna has gone up after Haryana released 7.5 lakhs cusec of water into it on Monday, the highest discharge in last 100 years on a single day.<br /> Bridge over Yamuna closed as water continues to rise feisty<br />

Reasons<br />September the month when monsoon is supposed to withdraw from the region has brought not only rain for Delhi but also the possibility of floods. <br /> Flood alert has been sounded in the low-lying areas here, after heavy downpours for three days caused the water level to cross the danger mark in the Yamuna river on Saturday.<br />

Distraction<br />The iron railway and road bridge over the India’s holy river Yamuna has been closed due to danger water level of the river.<br />Railways stopped train services on the old Yamuna bridge at around 3 am on Tuesday and are diverting all the trains bound for Old Delhi Railway Station and towards the eastern part of the country through other routes, a railway official said.<br />Twenty-seven local trains have been cancelled while 58 short distance trains like Farakka, Padmavati, Howrah Janata, Ranikhet and Lal Quila Express have been diverted.<br />
  9. 9. Measures<br />Flood Control Minister Raj Kumar Chouhan said booster pumps have been installed in several areas along the river to pump out the water. However, he said, there is no threat to the Games .<br /> Over 68 divers with 50 boats, and Disaster Management force unit have been deployed to meet any possible occurrence.<br /> A total of 1,500 people from Delhi’s low-lying areas have been evacuated from the banks of the Yamuna river and shifted to around 160 relief camps set up by the Delhi government.<br />

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday announced an advance ad hoc assistance of rupees 500 crore for Uttarakhand State in addition to the money advanced a day earlier for the State Disaster Response Fund.<br />Indian capital city Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said In a message to Delhiites that the “There is no need to get panic”.<br /> “We have set up enough rescue camps and are monitoring the<br />Mobile medical professionals teams and water tanks have also been hard-pressed into service to help the flood affected people in Delhi and NCR region.<br />
