  5. 5. Inefficiency of Transport Layer Protocols a. Transport layer is important in the internet. b. It ensures setting up and maintaining end to end connections, reliable end to end delivery of data packets, flow control and congestion control. c. Wireless Internet Requires efficient operation of the transport layer protocol as the wireless medium is inherently unreliable. d. Indirect TCP(ITCP),Snoop TCP, and mobile TCP are some solutions.
  6. 6. Inefficiency of Application Layer Protocols a. Traditional application layer protocols used in the Internet such as HTTP, TELNET, SMTP and several markup languages such as HTML. b. Wireless bandwidth is limited and expensive. Also the capabilities of handheld devices are limited. c. Wireless Application protocol(WAP) and optimizations over traditional HTTP are some of the solutions for the application layer issue.
