Denmark.
• Kirk Kristiansen founded the
company in 1932 and named his
company Lego, derived from the
Danish words Leg Godt, meaning
play well.
• Lego is still owned by the Kirtiansen
family and is valued at $14.6 billion,
making it the third largest toy
manufacturer.
• Lego sells its products in over 130
countries.
3. Lego Foundation
• Lego Foundation does not simply donate their products; they get involved
with projects that bring added value to the individuals they are helping.
• The Foundation has partnered with Billund Municipality to develop the town
of Billund.
• They co-established the Capital of Children Company and built a knowledge
center for creativity, play, and learning.
• The Lego Foundation added a Lego Education Innovation Studio (LEIS) to
all the schools of Billund, Denmark.
• LEIS is a specialized classroom that enables children to work with Legos
and other creative tools when problem solving class concepts.
• In 2013, Lego Foundation founded an international kindergarten in Billund.
• The overall vision of the project is to promote the growth of Billund by
attracting researchers, entrepreneurs, and educators to help the town’s
future: its children.

achieve this commitment they conduct behaviour-based safety training
across the organisation.

• The LEGO Group and the LEGO Foundation actively engage in and
contribute to the local communities in which they are present.
• They engage their colleagues in projects in their local communities, which
their partners have suggested.
• In Ledce in the Czech Republic , they have supported a home for
underprivileged with an overall purpose of supporting education and
generally improving the conditions for the children.
• Build a long term relationship with the home and to be a role model to
children by engaging our employees in the relationship.
• They have established playrooms in the children’s departments in seven
hospitals, in Germany where they organised kids camps for children aged
between 8-14 years, in China where several LEGO buildings events were
organised, the Enfield school project in the US where the ambition is to
integrate playful learning in 7 elementary schools or the 120 factory tours for
approximately 2,600 children from the local community in their production
facility in Mexico.
7. Environment
• They believe that the skills fostered by playing with
LEGO bricks, such as having fun, being creative and
using analytical thinking, are some of the very same
skills that are needed to tackle complex environmental
issues. They use these types of skills to address two
critical environmental sustainability issues within the
LEGO Group.
• Their approach to waste is simple: reduce, reuse, and
recycle. They actively work to reduce their inputs, reuse
materials where they can and recycle items like paper,
cardboard, wood and metal. They achieved a 90%
recycling rate from our production facilities in 2013. This
milestone puts them one step closer to their zero waste
goal.
