  2. 2. <ul><li>The students ate their lunch in there classrooms. </li></ul><ul><li>Their were no cafeterias or hot lunches. </li></ul><ul><li>They didn’t have much playground equipment like we do now. They played marbles or jump rope most of the times. </li></ul>Playgrounds
  3. 3. <ul><li>They had very small libraries but had many books. </li></ul><ul><li>They also don’t have computers like we do now days. </li></ul><ul><li>Most of the schools didn’t have libraries so they had books in their classrooms to read. </li></ul>Library
  4. 4. <ul><li>Twenty to thirty students in a class. </li></ul><ul><li>Thirty – two students in a kindergarten </li></ul><ul><li>In the 50’s in Western Pennsylvania some classes had about 30 students. </li></ul><ul><li>In a third or fourth grade some classes had about 60 students in one classroom and the teachers would take turns with each grade. </li></ul>Students in the class
  5. 5. <ul><li>They had to learn to spell all of the words correctly or the teacher would make you write it out 5 or 10 times on the chalkboard. </li></ul><ul><li>Hand writing and maths was taught daily. </li></ul><ul><li>They had no computers. </li></ul>What was studied ?
  6. 6. <ul><li>They didn’t have many rules. </li></ul><ul><li>If they broke one of the rules then they would have to go to the principals office or have detention. </li></ul><ul><li>They weren’t allowed to chew gum or talk to their neighbours'. </li></ul><ul><li>They also had to respect their teachers at all time! </li></ul>School Rules
  7. 7. <ul><li>The school was small and only went up to grade six. </li></ul><ul><li>When school was started, everyday they started off the day with a prayer and the teacher read from the bible. </li></ul><ul><li>They assembly once a week. </li></ul>Was there anything that was different ?
