Cockatiel Breeders Where To Find The Tamest Cockatiels
If you are new to cockatiel parenting, you may have concerns and questions about cockatiel
breeders and which ones are the best ones. And for good reason. You want to make sure you are
getting a cockatiel that has been raised and tamed in the right way. Here are a few tips for finding
that loving cockatiel.
You usually have two choices of where to purchase your new cockatiel. With either one, you want
to make sure they are reputable.
The local pet shop:
Some local pet shops do acquire cockatiels from private breeders on commission. Most likely
these cockatiels will be hand raised and tame. How tame your cockatiel will be also depends on
how long the local pet shop has had the cockatiel and if the employees continued to work with the
bird, You should be able to get the history on your cockatiel if it was from a private breeder such
as his age, pedigree, any illness history etc.
For the most part many local pet shops acquire their birds in bulk from suppliers across the
country who only supply birds and dont work with them. These birds will still be wild and untamed
since they most likely just were shipped into the country and sold to pet shops. Adopting a
cockatiel this way will require more work on your part when it comes to taming and training him. It
isnt an impossible task, but just be aware you will have to have more patience and it may take
longer to accomplish what you want. Cockatiels sold in bulk like this usually come with no health
history or age history so you really wont know anything about them.
Private Cockatiel Breeder:
If you have access to a private cockatiel breeder, this is probably your best bet. Do your research
to make sure the breeder is reputable. If you live close enough, visit his facility and see how his
cockatiels are hatched and raised and what the living conditions are. This will tell you a lot about
the breeder.
Since most private breeders hand raise the cockatiels and work with them individually, you will
have a better chance of adopting a tame cockatiel. This will make your training a lot easier. Plus,
you will also know the history of your bird, his age, health history and pedigree.
These are some simple guidelines to follow to help you make the best decision of where to adopt
your cockatiel from. Doing some research before purchasing a pet cockatiel can save you a lot of
time trying to reverse some behavior issues that you have acquired with your new pet. Cockatiels
are very loving pets and will bond with you to give you many years of companionship.
