  • The index values are between 0.0 – 5.0. Results are generally between 1.5 –3.5, and it exceeds 4.5 very rarely. The values above 3.0 indicate that the structure of habitat is stable and balanced; the values between 1.0- 3.0 indicate high diversity of individuals in the area and the values under 1.0 indicate that there are pollution and degradation of habitat structure (Librea, 2012). The Shannon Index for the protected area and the unprotected area are 1.1524 and 1.1760 respectively. This shows that both habitats are stable and balanced and are most likely conducive for shelter of marine organisms.
  • The results of the data collected and the assessment of the seagrass abundance shows that the Beaches of Arjan’s Place, La Esperanza and Jingle Bells are still under normal conditions and are unlikely to be considered as eutrophic.
