  • Not an iconic presenter, so please bear with me for tonight.
  • Before we begin, let us pray this short prayer.
This is a short prayer that is very common to Catholics and is normally prayed every time we pray the Liturgy of the Hours.
What is Liturgy of the Hours? Don’t worry, you will learn that during Day of Prayer.
Let us put ourselves in the presence of God, let us be aware of the presence of God.
  • God is Transcendent
    -God the Father, the Creator
-Book with Author, Painting with Painter, Creation with Creator
    God is Immanent
-God the Holy Spirit holds all things together.
    -He is within us.
    God is Emmanuel
    -God the Son.
    -God is a Person.
-God has a face. God is not an abstract energy or intangible being. He has come among us.
  • Before God formed each and every one of us in the womb, he has already known us, he has already called us by name. Before we came to birth, he has already chosen us.
And he has planted in us the seed of faith. That’s why it is our deepest desires to search for God.
  • The Son of Man became man so that men might become sons of God.
    -C. S. Lewis
  • How do you know the alarm will ring? How do you know you will wake up? There are people who die in their sleep.
How do you know your husband is not cheating on you?
How do you know when you press the button “2” and you will land on 2nd level?
How do you know we won’t poison you?
  • -I am with you always, yes, until the end of times.
-Today, you are with me in Paradise.
  • E.g. You don’t know with 100% certainty whether you can live with your spouse for the rest of your life, but you committed yourself anyway.
You can never be 100% sure.
Jesus, “Blessed are those who have not seen yet believed.”
  • Disaster, war, genocide, massacre, corruption, price hike, abuse of power, prisoners dying in the prison…
  • Journey of RCIA does not end when you are baptised. The journey continues a life time.
Like most people planning for their wedding, but not for their marriage.
  • The invitation to embark on a journey of faith to fall deeper in love with God.
Faith is not just intellectual, using the head. We must engage God at the heart level.
Some of you here. You are doubtful. It is okay to be doubtful. Doubt is not the opposite of faith. Rather, it is an element of faith. The most important thing is we need to have a listening heart.
  • 4) Faith is certain because God is Truth and Jesus guarantees it. Jesus says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus defended this Truth and eventually Jesus died on the Cross for the Truth.
    5) Faith requires perseverance. We need to work on our faith. Our faith will not grow if we don’t nurture it. We can lose our faith, if we could not be bothered.
    6) Faith is necessary for Baptism and for Salvation. Rite of Acceptance.
    7) When we are deeply in love with someone, time stops. And rightly so, if we have faith and you are in deep love with God, we will have glimpses of eternity.
  • Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta surrendered her whole life for the poorest of the poor in India.
She has such great faith and love for Jesus.
In her lasts years, she experienced great dryness in prayer and could not “feel” God’s presence.
But she persevered till the end.
  • Meriam Ibrahim was condemned to death by Sudanese Government for apostasy.
She could always take the easy way out be denying her faith in Jesus.
    But she did not.
  • Uncle Sim, a Catholic, forgiving the lady road bully, who threatened him.
  • Not an iconic presenter, so please bear with me for tonight.
  • Jesus left us a Church
  • Sacred Tradition is the living transmission of faith through Catechism, apostolic letters, apostolic preaching, liturgy etc.
It is not the rites and ritual, not cultures nor customs, nor practices, nor do’s and don’ts.
Sacred Tradition is the fundamental beliefs, collective memory of God since the beginning of time, being passed from generation to generation.
Sacred Tradition is equally important as the Sacred Scripture.
E.g. Trinity, Jesus is fully human and fully divine, abortion, euthanasia, stem cells research, warfare, slavery (19th century).
  • The ultimate Word of God is Jesus Christ.
This Word of God is written in the heart of the Church.
And this indescribable encounter and collective memory and profound experience of God in the person of Jesus Christ is transmitted from generation to generation.
  • Faith and reason:
    -Brains and stupidity.
    -Queuing in line.
    -Dogs chasing rabbits.
    -Queen and cat.
