Augmented guitar: adding expressioncontroller characteristics to the guitar pick

  1. 1. AUGMENTING the expression of a plucked string electric instrument Sergio Majluf April 16h, 2013
  2. 2. WHAT AM I DOING? I’m exploring the movements and patterns emerging from guitar playing, addressing those findings by measuring and/or capturing the expressions as a new way of interfacing the player with a musical instrument.
  3. 3. WHAT AM I DOING? Date
  4. 4. WHY? As technology advances, stringed instruments – electric guitars – have stayed mostly unmodified for as long as 85 years. However, there is technology elsewhere in the signal path.
  5. 5. WHY? There is technology in the signal processing, modeling, amplifying, even synthesis...
  6. 6. WHY ... but there’s not much technology in playing or performing.
  7. 7. WHAT IF, THEN?
