Name and Description <ul><li>Eagles have very large, strong beaks that are hooked for tearing meat. </li></ul><ul><li>Their feet are built for grabbing and come equipped with sharp claws called talons. </li></ul><ul><li>And they all have very powerful wings and flight muscles so that they can catch food on the move and carry it away. </li></ul>
  5. 5. What an eagle eats <ul><li>Eagles carefully pick up a flesh from the bone. </li></ul><ul><li>The eagle swallows every bite bones ,fur ,feathers or scales and all. </li></ul><ul><li>An eagles favorite food is fish. </li></ul>

How eagles raise their young <ul><li>A female eagle lays about 1to3 eggs in the springtime, which hatch after about 35 days of incubation, nest watch, eaglet feeding and brooding duties are shared by both parents until the young are strong enough to fly at about 12 week of age. </li></ul><ul><li>Eaglets are full size at 12 weeks of age only about 50% of eaglets hatched survive the first year. </li></ul>
  8. 8. What are an eagles enemies? <ul><li>Eagles have no natural enemies. The nationwide decline of bald eagles that took place from the 1940s into the early 1970 was a result of contaminant build up in the environment related directly to the </li></ul>

How an eagle protects itself <ul><li>Eagles have about 7,000 feathers industrial use of pesticides and chemicals in several layers on their bodies. </li></ul><ul><li>The feathers overlap to trap layers of air, which keeps eagles warm enough so they can live in very cold climates. </li></ul><ul><li>Eagles open or close their feathers at will to protect themselves from rain, s/un, and </li></ul><ul><li>cold. </li></ul>
