    2. 2. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE  Great Britain established and attempted to maintain control over the colonies.  (England became Great Britain in the early 1700’s.)
    3. 3. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS  How did Great Britain impose it’s political and economic control over the colonies?
    4. 4. KEY WORDS French and Indian War: England and France claimed land in the Ohio River Valley. They fought for land claims between 1754 and 1763. England won most of France’s land in North America, as well as Florida and all lands east of the Mississippi River. France, to get Spain to enter the war, gave Louisiana to Spain.  Proprietor: representative of the King. 
    5. 5. ECONOMIC RELATIONSHIPS Great Britain imposed strict control over trade.  Great Britain taxed the colonies after the French and Indian War.  Colonies traded raw materials for goods. 
    6. 6. POLITICAL RELATIONSHIPS Colonies had to obey British laws enforced by governors.  Colonial governors were appointed by the king or by the proprietor.  Colonial legislatures made laws for each colony and were monitored by colonial governors.  King George III
