RYLA 2018
RYLA 2018 was held at Jackson's Mill in Lewis County, West Virginia. We had around 80 high
school freshmen attend from high schools around the state. Some guest speakers included our
district governor-elect, Mike Davidson, and a past RYLA student Roark Sizemore who spoke on
the Pantry Plus Program.
Throughout the weekend, students learned valuable leadership skills, such as problem solving,
group communication, and responsibility. Students and staff also took part in RISE AGAINST
HUNGER, and helped package over 10,000 meals. We also held a game night and had a
scavenger hunt. Students had the chance to meet this year's exchange students (high schoolers
from Brazil, Belgium and Italy) and ask questions about Rotary Youth Exchange as well.
RYLA is a driving force in Rotary to get students involved in their communities and to teach
them the skills they need to succeed in life. We also choose 4 returnees, who will come to RYLA
2019 to assist and pass on their knowledge.
