  3. 3. • Competitive Balance (CB) refers to the balance of a league’s teams in sport capabilities. The more the competitiveness of teams, the harder to predict games outcomes and the league will be more attractive (Michie & Oughton, 2004). • The competitiveness for avoiding relegation improves CB instead with this for the title of champion in Greek Volley League (Manasis, 2016).   4. 4. • In Volleyball team’s performance in skills connected directly with the game result (Marchelino et al., 2009) and the with sport success in a championship (Drikos et al., 2009). • Critical performance indicators reduces as the score difference gets lower and the set is more ambivalent (Drikos & Vagenas, 2011).   5. 5. • Measure of CB in team’s level as the contribution of the team to the total CB of the championship (Manasis et al., 2013). • Performance data from each team of Greek Volley League from 2005-06 until 2007-08 and 2009-10 until 2015-16 (Ν= 119). • Skills: Serve, Pass, Attack 1 (after pass), Attack 2 (after defense), block. • 10 variables – Serve: Lost, overpass, aces. – Attack 1&2: Kills, errors + blocked – Pass: Excellent + good, errors + overpass – Block: kill/set Competitive Balance & Performance Analysis •Competitive Balance •Performance Analysis in Volleyball •Data •Method •Results •Conclusions
  6. 6. • Evaluation scale consists of 6 levels. • Reliability of the data collection and entry was checked by an independent observer with Adjusted Κ Cohen and it was Adjusted Κ= .85, very good(Altman, 1991). • Cluster analysis with k-means method to determine 3 groups of teams according to their contribution in total CB. • 3 group One way Μ.ΑN.Ο.VA.   10. 10. • Teams of 1st group(2-3 per championship) differs not only to their contribution to the total CB but also in sport performance in volleyball skills compared to teams of group 2 (7-8 per championship) and group 3 (2 per championship) . • Skills which differentiated among groups are: – All skills between group 1 with others. – Block, Attack 1&2 between group 2 & group 3.   11. 11. • Categorization of teams according to their distribution in total CB is a safe guide for the optimum plan( number of teams and system) of Volley League in order to secure sport development, financial sustainability and to increase the interest of sports fans. • From a technical point of view, the improvement in specific skills (Attack 1&2) lead to raise the CB of the championship.
