  2. 2. Demand-Response Demand Response programs are becoming an integral component of the evolving smart grid infrastructure. Large commercial building owners and operators are attracted by the cash payments received from their energy provider for their willingness to shed energy load during periods of peak consumption. Tenant comfort, however, remains paramount since building owners are concerned with customer retention and attraction. Demand-Response Service “price based” integrates into an existing infrastructure of Building Automation Systems (BAS), and manages electrical load through those systems by shedding, shifting and shaping electrical load to automate demand response or in response to electricity price hourly on the Energy Stock Market, generating cost savings of electrical power management. roberto.quadrini@gmail.com

Program The program is composed by scheduling of electrical loads, which are part of the domain Demand-Response (HVAC, lighting system, Combined Heat & Power) and is determined daily through a mathematical model based on these data: • the energy markets; • the power exchange; • by economic indices forecasting; • the weather; • from the calendar of activities. based on the expected power consumption of each load and considering reducing power consumption produced by each every action modulation (load forecasting data). roberto.quadrini@gmail.com

Audit Scheduling of each energy load are determined by a special audit with these the objectives of which are: • determine which are most suitable for the loads to be included in the service of Demand-Response; • determine which are the lower limits of each load scheduling; • determined for each scheduling, the consequences for the environment in terms of measurable variables comfort index (ie. degree of lighting, temperature, relative humidity percentage); • determining, for each modulation electricity saving. roberto.quadrini@gmail.com

Implementation at hospital Implementation of the level of communication between the systems of Building Automation System (BAS) present at the hospital to manage all loads service object of Demand-Response (HVAC, lighting and Combined Heat & Power system) and the control center. The measurement of electrical consumption of each load is carried out thanks to a series of smart meter (one for each load) which enable the real-time verification of the saving provided by the scheduling performed. The dashboard management allows to the engineers and plant managers of the customer to control and operate the system at any time any recovery operations on loads that do return the environment in standard conditions. roberto.quadrini@gmail.com
  6. 6. Implementation at hospital The implementation at hospital covered loads HVAC and the lighting of the common areas. Overall the perimeter of experimentation on a single building. The schedules of the loads were applied in the bonds shared with the technical structure of the hospital. One-third reduction of the illumination in areas of natural light; Management of room temperature setpoint in public areas and rooms of hospitalization up to a maximum of 3° C.
