TERN Data Discovery Portal Gateway to the TERN facilities ecosystem data Harvest metadata from facility portals
TERN Data Discovery Portal Gateway to the TERN facilities ecosystem dataSingle entry point for TERN ecosystem data Harvest metadata from facility portals
Stakeholders• Ecosystem scientists • Working on inter-domain research • Explore terrestrial ecosystem data• Policy makers and Environment managers • Council, state and federal agencies • Industries (mining., insurance etc.) • Environment Management organisations
Stakeholders• General public • Citizen scientists • Enthusiasts • Schools • Educational tool
Portal Overview• Metadata collection portal• Harvest metadata in a common Registry Interchange Format – Collection and Services (RIF-CS) format.• Enable search on TERN facilities from a single platform. • Leading users to TERN facility portals for data.
Portal Overview• Still in the development stage.• Spatial and temporal search.• Search based on field of research.• Harvested metadata from four facilities.• Close to 450 records harvested to-date.
Future work• Harmonise the harvesting process.• Validate the metadata records published on the portal• Develop API to make the portal machine queryable.• Beta release of the portal by June 2012 and release candidate by August 2012.• Quality metadata records from all TERN facilities by the end of 2012.
Portal Sustainability Plan• Key infrastructure to discover TERN related data.• Pre 2014 • Portal will be hosted by the Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF).• Post 2014 • Negotiation should happen with QCIF for long- term hosting and support.
Acknowledgement• Australian National Data Service for their support in providing ORCA software framework.• TERN portal development team.• TERN Facility Technical Managers.• TERN Office, Brisbane
