Vancouver and British Columbia has very little completion when it comes to mobility, hence it’s title as carsharing capital of North America. Specifically no Ride Hailing services meaning that we need to make hay. We need as many members as possible so that we are continued to be seen as a viable piece of Vancouverites mobility puzzle
But we have been lucky in that the cities we work in have been supportive but it came with a bit of convincing
They needed to understand how we can help add transportation options as Density grows.
Show that we will works as a good Municipal partner
Have the city Council approve policies and procedures
Create concessions around Residential permit parking and limit parking restrictions and subsidized parking
We are able to show that we have built a car sharing service for residents that is complimentary to existing mobility modes already in place
Align with long term strategies around transportation and environment
Foster a relationship of information sharing and partnership
Working together to identify parking locations and strategy
We are not the only provider that has a relationship with the city and it is important that everyone in the carsharing space is pushing in the same direction. Although we don’t work directly with our competitors we have at times collaborated to make sure we are able to stay viable. This could mean having Shared spots on Street in a new developing town centre development without exclusivity clauses
Metered access is also a issue that have been pushed by both ourselves and our competition. We need to have something that will help us create the convenience for members that will help us to compete with new mobility options coming into the market
Another way we look to increase our relevance is by highlighting that we are local. Our ads are unique and are geared towards themes that Vancouverites understand, inside jokes that are specific to Vancouver
Events such as Summer Cinema add to our brand presence and captive audience for signing up new members. We help bring these events to the community and we help bring the community to the events.
Partnerships with Translink, that include data sharing and parking at skytrain/subway stations. This created much more intermodal relevance for both us and Transit. Data can be used to show the city the importance of allowing parking around station that don’t have translink owned parking
Having a partner like Park n fly adds relevance and differentiates us from the competition. It adds a value to a memberships as most trips to the airport will be within an hour and costs a member 14.99 vs cab fare that could be upwards of $60
We have recently taken over responsibility for our app from our provider in order to have the flexibility to add and remove things as the business changes and it allows our tech provider to focus on all other workings of our business
Auto lock functionality has reduced calls to members that were leaving the vehicles unlocked, helping secure our vehicles and creating a better member experience.
