College of Engineering Chemical Engineering College Choices – RANKINGS* 25% Peer Assessment - surveys of Presidents, Provosts, Deans 20% Retention Rates - 80% six year graduation and 20% freshmen retention 20% Faculty Resources - 40% class size (<20), 35% faculty salaries, 15% PhD faculty, 5% full-time faculty, 5% student/faculty ratio 15% Student Selectivity - 50% SAT/ACT scores, 40% top 10% class, 10% admitted/apply ratio 10% Financial Resources (spending per student) 5% Alumni giving -- % of alumni that give 5% Graduation Rate -- actual vs predicted *US News and World Report - www.usnews.com

Early Decision: ONE college, ONE choice (binding) Early Action: multiple colleges, not binding, earlier decision PROS - You are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN you want to go ONLY to that school and you may get an early decision. - Some schools have non-binding policies CONS - Financial aid package may suffer - Students change their minds from October to April! - Additional pressure early in school year.

Choose the RIGHT SCHOOL - not prestige – best FIT for YOU 3. Build a great APPLICATION - put effort into it – the essay is important! 4. Find the MONEY - don’t be “blind” to this issue – be realistic …and get off to a GOOD START at College attend new student orientations, meet professors, join student orgs, stick with your passions (sports, music, reading, cooking…etc.)
