  2. 2. Two Prayer Models Nehemiah 1:4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.. • Fasting is about the condition of the heart, not the number of days. • Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines. Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life. • When God's people fast with a proper Biblical motive-seeking God's face not His hand - with a broken, repentant, and contrite spirit, God will hear from heaven and heal our lives, our families, our churches, our communities, our nation and our world. • Fasting and prayer can bring about revival and the fulfilment of the Great Commission. • True spiritual fasting focuses on God. Schedule your time to spend with God in fellowship, worship, and adoration of Him, and the more you read and meditate upon His Word, the greater your effectiveness will be in prayer and the more meaningful your fast will be. • Whether you hold a 1-day fast or an extended days fast, we pray that it will create a new, healthy pattern and discipline in your life; may our Lord's most wonderful love and blessings be poured out on you as you take this exciting step of faith. Fasting instructions • If you are pregnant or are on medication and/or under the care of a physician, please consult the physician before beginning any fasting. Introduction Fasting Guide • We, as a church, are going to do PRAYER AND FASTING for the next 40 days by using this CHART so that we can continue to grow in walking with Him even after this exercise. • PRAYER GUIDE: We encourage you to use it together with the chart so that you will be blessed & strengthened. • FAST once a week (set aside Wednesday as our fasting day) during the 40 days period - Except the 1st week on 24 hours Prayer & Fasting, we will fast from Friday 6pm – Sat 6pm. You can do full fast and only drink water for the day. Or you can do partial fasting i.e. only skipping certain meals in a day. • Even if you miss some days, please continue on without leaving a gap. Therefore, it means that it may take more than 40 days. However, it is very important that you complete the chart. • Please journal whatever the Holy Spirit says to you. • If you have any difficulties, please ask your leaders to help you. 1. Pray with A.C.T.S. ~Adapted from Prayercentral~ Adoration – “Praise be to God!” -Psalms 68:35 Tell God how much you appreciate Him. Express your love for Him. Praise His power and majesty. This is a great way to begin your prayer time. “How awesome are your deeds!” -Psalms 66:3 Confession – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” -1 John 1:9 Tell Him where you have fallen short. Be specific. Also ask for help and strength to turn away from future temptations. Thanksgiving – Always “glorify him with thanksgiving” - Psalms 69:30 You have plenty of reasons to be thankful. Thank God for His love, His faithfulness, His patience and a million other things. Express gratitude for what He’s doing in your life. Thank Jesus for dying on the cross for you. Thank the Holy Spirit for indwelling you, and never leaving. Thank Him for being your conscience, your counselor and that “still small voice.” Supplication – “Make your requests known to God.” - Philippians 4:6. Tell God what you want, no matter how small it seems to you. 2 . A simple prayer guide to pray for the lost: Five-fingered prayer: • Thumb: “good” Remind God that they [our oikos/community/nation] are valuable/precious to Him • Index finger: “pointing” Pray against the work of the accuser • Third finger: “3rd person of the Trinity” Pray for the Holy Spirit to bring conviction of sin • Fourth finger: “wedding ring finger” Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal to them their need for God and His love • Little finger: “little me” Pray that God will use you Please use these guidelines to help you in PRAYER & FASTING
