Summer

  1. 1. A Summer They Won’t Forget heidi m hensley #cpc18
  2. 2. 2 #cpc18 10 elements of an awesome summer Kids should leave with a biblical learning they can use in life. Growth Build a sense of community through activity and investment. Activity You have 6 summers to build memories. Memories Let them explore something they would never be able to see anywhere else. Adventure For kids and volunteers alike. There should be a moment to serve. Service To peers and to God. Connection This should be the best week of the year. Fun Don’t let the summer end. Make sure they are invited to church or plugged in. Follow Up They’re made not found. Awesome Volunteers Jesus
  3. 3. 01. Growth. What did they leave with? • Can they take away a biblical principal for daily living? • Did you meet them where they are? • How do you know? Get It
  4. 4. 4 02. Activity. Kids need to run. • Kids ages 5-16 spend an average of 6 hours in front of a screen per day. • The average age a child owns a cell phone – 10 • Community happens when we interact face to face • Let kids learn to play with one another Get It
  5. 5. 5 03 .Memories. You have 6 summers to make them.• Make sure your vbs is age appropriate – per level • Give kids opportunities to have legacy moments (right of passage) • Build them into leaders that want to pass down their memories What are you doing to empower the “aging out” kids who so love your summer program? S t u d e n t L e a d e r s
  6. 6. 6 04 Adventur e. It’s where we learn to be brave.
  7. 7. 10 05. S e r v i c e • Kids should have a serving or missions moment • Your VBS or summer should be a major entry point of service for your church • For kids – let them see their serving and giving in action
  8. 8. 12 Connectio n. Where do I belong? • Connection to God • Connection to peers • Connection to the church 06.
  9. 9. 13 Subtitle Here Jelly-o gummies jelly-o icing cupcake sesame snaps. Chupa chups marzipan oat cake cotton candy sweet bonbon pudding ice cream. 07. Fun This week should be the most fun week of their summer The gospel is important. But you can only share it with kids who come and want to come back. • Train your volunteers to have fun • Fun is a learned behavior these days
  10. 10. 08 Follow up. Kids who make a decision to follow Christ at camp are less likely to be followed up with than a child who makes the same decision on the weekend. Recruit for this spot! Volunteers who will call, send a letter and make sure the connection doesn’t fall 94% of Christians were saved as children 25% of that number happened at a summer program like VBS or camp How?
  11. 11. 15 09. Awesome Volunteers Awesome Volunteers are made not found (typically) • Ask, Train, Empower & Appreciate • Invest in people and they will invest in return • Give them the tools they need • Allow them to have a voice • Love them like crazy!
  12. 12. 10. Jesus Amidst the fun, logistics and training – don’t lose sight of why we do what we do. • Prayer Huddles • Praise Wall • Stop and give thanks – celebrate • Chart spiritual growth • Tell one another how you see Jesus in them as you carry out your summer If you’re doing summer without him, you’re doing it wrong.
