  1. 1. Australian Centre of EcologicalAnalysis and SynthesisData Delivery InfrastructurePresentation by Alison Specht
  2. 2. Driving science questionsProblem • Big science questions need multi-disciplinary teams with a strong outcomes • Scientists and managers rarely collaborate beyond their own disciplineThe ACEAS data delivery infrastructure aims to showthe benefits of collaboration, in the heterogeneousenvironment of ecosystem studies.
  3. 3. Potential stakeholders• the ecosystem science and management community • self-identification from 750 respondents to 2011-12 survey (Keniger)
  4. 4. Potential stakeholders• the ecosystem science and management community • self-identification from 750 respondents to 2011-12 survey (Keniger) Primary discipline
  5. 5. Potential stakeholders• the ecosystem science and management community • self-identification from 750 respondents to 2011-12 survey (Keniger) Primary discipline Employment field
  6. 6. Overview of information and data available• Currently publishing synthesised datasets from different sites across Australia on a geo-referenced portal • part of sabbatical fellowship research • first beta prototype• Two ACEAS groups were able to attract funding from ANDS for data transformation and modelling products for • models of 130 small mammal populations, and • prediction of carbon and nitrogen dynamics in vegetation.• More data emerging from activities of ACEAS participants

  16. 16. Sustainability Post 2014• The venue for all analysis and synthesis for ecosystem scientists and managers• Have an identifiable brand• Have demonstrably facilitated solutions to big science questions• Changed ways of thinking
