  4. 4. 1. In 3400 BC Sumerians discovered the opium plant (from poppy seeds) and used it for medicine. In 19th century Chinese brought opium to the USA and it became popular. People started to get addicted. Opium releaves pain. Since then opium has evolved into street heroin and morphine. 2. Cannabis appeared in Asia 3000BC. 3. They started selling opium and coca leaves (cocaine) in 1700s. The natives chewed cocoa leaves to be stronger. 5.   5. 5. 10.1.2021 Many drugs were made from plants and animal secretions. Addictions occurred very early. The oldest thing on which man was addicted was morphine and alcohol that was in 1802-1805. Today they make drugs in laboratory (they mix chemicals):
  6. 6. Getting addicted Addiction starts in the brain. When you first take a drug, you feel euphoric or ‚high‘. And the more you use it, the more you want it and the bigger amount you need. The brain and the body get used to drug‘s effects. You can get addicted with only one use. 10.1.2021

Someone experiencing an addiction will: Be unable stay away from the substance or stop using it. Won‘t have self-control. Will want the substance or behavior badly. Won‘t care how their behavior causes problems. Lack of emotional response. 3. Over time, addictions can seriously interfere with your life, and they just get worse. That‘s why is important for anyone who is experiencing addiction to ask for help. 10.1.2021
