List roles, skills, industries, etc. to clearly showcase your abilities. Speak in first person. Tip: Avoid catch-phrases (jack of all trades), common descriptors (trustworthy, motivated, responsible) and be authentic. Build Your Profile

  10. 10. 10 confidential Build Your Profile Continue building your profile by adding special projects, publications, awards, education, languages, contact info, etc. Add content that is meaningful to you and helpful for connections – everything should support your personal brand. Tip: LinkedIn will guide you through building a complete profile and give you reminders. See Appendix for standard YourEncore descriptions and content
  11. 11. 11 confidential Build Your Profile Create a list of your core skills to setup others to endorse you. Tip: Start to endorse others to receive the return favor. Reach out to past and current connections and request a recommendation. Tip: Given direction and tell them what to say about you

Tip: Choose to make your connections visible (to other connections) and help connect your network Join groups that are relevant to your industry, expertise and background

  14. 14. 14 confidential Build Your Network Building a network of connections can benefit you in a number of ways: Get introduced to someone in a connection’s network. Learn from a connection’s expertise and even get advice. Ask a connection a question to help solve a problem. Engage in a discussion about a topic of mutual interest. Ask that others keep you in mind when they see projects of interest to you or recruit them to help. Request that your profile be forwarded to one of your connection’s contacts.
  15. 15. 15 confidential • Use LinkedIn’s Search bar to find your contact. Possible contacts will appear as you type. Hit return or the eye glass and you’ll see the full list. • Find your contact from the list, or click on a contact’s name to read their profile. • If you aren’t finding the right contact, they may not have a LinkedIn profile (or they’ve selected the option to not appear in searches).   16. 16. 16 confidential • Choose the Connect button from the results list, or from your contact’s profile. • When prompted to indicate how you know the contact, choose the most appropriate response and follow the prompts. • LinkedIn provides a canned invite, but consider adding a personal note that reflects your personality, how you know the person, or a polite “thank you for connecting with me.” • Choose Send Invitation and you’re done!
