4 mins SEC: This is who I am, I had this idea for a unit, then what it turned into Shannon: What attracted you about the idea, deciding to join - That collaborative community of like-minded educators. Great practice space to make this stuff happen!
Give audience 60 seconds to read & digest. Ask for questions, things that stick out, things they didn’t know were part of PBL, etc. How these showed up in our units - SEC, gaining knowledge, spent so much time in city guides, restaurant reviews, museum reviews, scheduled by type of place and used TripAdvisor so much. Kept identifying ways people described these places in negative and positive ways to develop that vocabulary. Shannon - how were these elements shown in your experience? - Extended period of time created space for exciting, authentic experiences that might have otherwise felt like “I don’t have time for this” problems. Lunch at an authentic MX restaurant, Skype with classroom in Mexico. Opportunities to compare products and perspectives (one of those standards that I never know how to fit in, but happens naturally here). tops 10 minutes here.
