Literacies & their spaces

  1. 1. Literacies & Their Spaces
  2. 2. Literacy in Practice • Do we have too many definitions of literacy (Computer literacy, Christian literacy, television literacy, etc.)? • Have we made literacy “mean so many different things” that it is now meaningless itself? Or do these new literacies operate fine within their various “spaces” (geographical, cultural, historical, etc.) • Burdened with the herculean task of having to define literacy, how would you now attempt to do it?
  3. 3. • What is our social responsibility to define and teach literacy? Should we prioritize certainly literacies? If so, what are the guidelines or parameters? • What responsibility do teachers and leaders have on this issue of literacy?
