ENEIDE Antefatto: Enea, figlio di Venere e Anchise, parte da Troia distrutta dagli Achei per fondare una nuova cittàLa vicenda• Enea giunge a Cartagine: dopo 7 anni di navigazione, una tempesta costringe Enea e i suoi adapprodare a Cartagine dove vengono accolti dalla regina Didone.• Enea racconta il suo viaggio: descrive il colloquio con l’oracolo di Apollo a Delo, la pestilenza aCreta, l’incontro con la cognata Andromaca ora sposa di Eleno, l’incontro con i Ciclopi in Sicilia,la morte del padre Anchise. Riprende poi il viaggio abbandonando Didone che si era innamoratadi lui e che per dolore si uccide.• Enea parte per l’Italia: torna in Sicilia e celebra il padre Anchise con giochi atletici, quindirisale l’Italia, perde il nocchiero Palinuro, incontra la Sibilla Cumana che lo accompagna negliinferi dove incontra le anime di Didone e del padre che gli predice la futura gloria sua e dei suoidiscendenti romani.• Enea giunge nel Lazio: giunto alle foci del Tevere, Enea tenta di instaurare buoni rapporti con iLatini, ma Giunone, nemica dei troiani, manovra per provocare una guerra. Enea si allea conEvandro e suo figlio Pallante, greci che hanno fondato una piccola città dove sorgerà Roma.• Guerra tra Troiani e Latini: dopo violenti scontri Enea conquista le terre dei Latini e sposaLavinia, figlia del re Latino.
