43. 43. UN TRASH OUR DESERT / UN DESIERTO SIN BASURA

Illegal dumping in the desert is not only an eye sore, it is a health hazard. The water that collects in waste that is dumped in the desert is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Every year several El Pasoans are diagnosed with West Nile Virus. By working to eliminate the breeding ground for disease carrying mosquitoes, we can decrease the number of people affected.

After the health risk, dumping is a strain on our local economy. Cleaning up the desert forces the city to use money on picking up illegal dumping that could be used in areas that can benefit the quality of life in El Paso.

Representative Dr. Michiel Noe, City of El Paso
