Our Home Garden - Week 5 Update [2007]

  1. 1. Our Home Garden Weekly Update Week 5 summer
  2. 2. Basil This week the most successful plants have been the herbs. Here’s the basil I planted early spring. There’s a patch of lemongrass growing behind it. I lifted and divided the lemongrass at the end of winter.
  3. 3. Borage The borage is coming to the end of its flowering season and looking a little worse for wear at the moment.
  4. 4. Oregano I grow a bunch of oregano under our Kalamata olive. It doesn’t get a heap of sun but it hasn’t stopped its growth. It’s just started flowering in the last week.
  5. 5. Ginger Mint This Ginger Mint is also coming to the end of its tether and showing signs of distress.
  6. 6. Buddleia We’re growing a Buddleia hedge to hide the fence in the background. These are absolutely loving their environment and have flowered continuously for most of the summer.
  7. 7. Metsideros We transplanted this Metsideros at the start of spring and it has finally started showing signs of new growth.
  8. 8. Frogs This welcome stranger decided to GTA [Grand Theft Auto] my son’s Tonka truck. As it’s been so humid lately we’ve been seeing lots of frogs around the garden.
  9. 9. Snails Q: What do you get when you combine some rubbish, moisture, old plant matter and a great hiding place? A: A ton of snails…
