  1. 1. What is 311?...It’s an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. To date, 311 has released ten studio albums, one live album, four compilation albums, four EPs and four DVDs. 311 is generally known as an alternative rock band, but it is also classified as rap rock, rap metal, funk rock, funk metal, reggae and jazz fusion.

  5. 5. What’s in a name?The origin of the band’s name hasoften been known to it’s old schoolfan base. It’s often said that it standsfor KKK. They say this because “K” isthe 11th letter of the alphabet so 3 K’swould mean KKK. That couldn’t be anyfurther from the truth. It’s actually apolice code for indecent exposure. Amember of the band was ticketed forurinating in public and that was thecode used. There music speaks ofpeace, positivity and unity and it’s sadthat people try to say these thingsabout the band.

Mainstream http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rne6c0rfC NEBreakthrough…In 1995, 311 released what was to betheir biggest selling CD, the self-titled311 (also known as The Blue Album).The first single "Dont Stay Home" wasa modest success, reaching #29 onBillboards Modern Rock Tracks chart.But the follow-up single"Down", which was released 14months after the album, receivedheavy airplay on mainstream radio andthe accompanying music video was onMTVs rotation. The song hit #1 on theModern Rock chart. The band madetheir network television debut on LateNight with Conan OBrien on August23. The third single, "All Mixed Up,“enjoyed almost identicalsuccess, reaching #4 on the ModernRock chart. These singles propelled thealbum to platinum status in 1996. Thealbum eventually went triple-platinum. They also appeared on LateShow with David Letterman playing"Down".
  7. 7. 311 dayOn March 11, 2000, 311 begancelebrating an unofficial holiday oftheir own creation, which they called311 Day. The band chose the datebased on its numerical associationwith their own name: March is thethird month of the year, so March 11 iswritten as 3/11. Every year on March11, the band performs an extendedconcert for thousands of their fans.
  8. 8. Personal ExperienceI’ve been a fan of 311 since 1993. Thefirst time I saw them was at Ziggy’s inWinston-Salem. The Charlotte area isnormally always a stop on their tours. Ijust saw them last week for the 39thtime. I’ll continue to go as long as theykeep touring!
