  1. 1. Liceo Scientifico Michelangelo Cagliari Architecture Comenius Project 2009-2011 Bonaria’s Church The church of N.S. Bonaria is an important and representative church of Cagliari: you can notice its huge and white facade whether you arrive by boat or by plane; it was built in 1326 and secures an ancient wooden simulacrum of our Lady of Bonaria, patroness of Sardinia. This is Bonaria seen by plane. Bastione Saint Remy This magnificient construction is located in the center of the city. It was designed in 1896 and inaugurated in 1901. From its top if you look around you can have a complete view of Cagliari, from the harbour to the surrounding hills! The Bastione yesterday… … and the Bastione today! Roman Amphitheatre The Roman Amphitheatre dates back to the II century A.D.; it’s one of the most important monument in Cagliari, which recalls the Roman domination. This is the Amphitheatre as the Roman left it… … and as we see it today. This is the T Hotel, a beautiful piece of modern architecture with an height of over 62 meters. This is the gate of Elephant Tower. Make sure you pass it before sunset…or you will be thrown down the city walls! Pisan Towers San Pancrazio is the highest tower of Cagliari. It was built in Pisan time. This building, a symbol of the city, is the most important landmark in Castello. The tower served as a defensive bulwark for the numerous attacks from Genoese and Moorish people. This is San Pancrazio Tower built by the Pisans and used as a prison by the Aragoneses. This is the Elephant Tower, so called because the little elephant. Ancient picture of Bonaria’s Church. Cagliari
