  3. 6. <ul><li>You live in faith of rhythm every day. </li></ul>
  4. 7. <ul><li>1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3  And God said, Let there be light : and there was light. </li></ul>
  5. 8. <ul><li>What is timing to God? </li></ul>
  6. 9. Light is a wave God created timing. The first thing He did!

  8. 12. 14  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament ( The expanse of the heavens; the sky. ) of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs , and for seasons , and for days , and years

  11. 20. <ul><li>Light, dark. Time . Sun rise, sunset,,, seasons, hours, years, minutes, seconds , beats, life, death, timing , rhythm -- beats per minute . </li></ul><ul><li>We measure our entire existence against time (from light & seasons). </li></ul><ul><li>When you play drums you connect with more than just an instrument. </li></ul><ul><li>You are tapping into the very fabric of this existence that God made. </li></ul>

In the bible… <ul><li>&quot;Praise Him with the timbrel and dance.. &quot; Psalm 150:3-6. </li></ul><ul><li>&quot;Begin the music, strike the tambourine ... &quot; Psalm 81:2. </li></ul><ul><li>&quot;Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp.&quot; Psalm 149 </li></ul>

Background of the Drum <ul><li>One of the oldest types of percussion instruments. </li></ul><ul><li>Origin may have been the sieve used for sifting grain. </li></ul><ul><li>Earliest visual depiction is the Frame Drum -- comes from a cave in Catal Huyuk in Turkey, around 5600 B.C. </li></ul><ul><li>Predominantly played by ….women(!) in the ancient world (I Samuel 10:5). </li></ul><ul><li>This is the drum, without metal jingles, which is referred to in the bible as the “tambourine” or “timbrel” and was used in worship (Psalm 68:24-25). </li></ul>

Drumming in the bible <ul><li>“ Tambourine” is not a direct translation! </li></ul><ul><li>The original word is the 'tof' (Hebrew). </li></ul><ul><li>'tambour” + “ine” </li></ul><ul><li>The 'tof' appears in Scripture 16 times. </li></ul><ul><li>- Terl Bryant - from 'A Heart to Drum' </li></ul>

Drumming in the bible <ul><li>Following God’s liberation of Israel from Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea, Miriam and the women celebrated with the frame drum and dancing (Exodus 15). </li></ul><ul><li>Psalm 150 encourages worshippers to praise God on the frame drum (Psalm 150:4). </li></ul><ul><li>Following Jewish tradition, the early church would have worshiped and celebrated playing the frame drum. </li></ul><ul><li>It wasn’t until the drum became associated with pagan Graeco-Roman gods and goddesses that the drum was forbidden and fell out of use within Christian worship. </li></ul><ul><li>Today, the drum is being reintroduced into Christian worship. </li></ul><ul><li>Drummers from all over the world are being called back into ministry. </li></ul><ul><li>The drum has been an essential element of the spirituality of the majority of the earth’s peoples since the dawn of civilization. </li></ul>
  17. 27. <ul><li>God's word gives authority for the drummer to strike the drum: in celebration (1 Chron. 13:8); in praise (Ps. 150:4); in worship (Ps. 68:25); for prophecy (1 Sam. 10:5, 6); for healing (Ps. 81:2-7); and in declaration of the Lord's sovereignty (Isaiah 30:32). </li></ul>
