If khan can so can I - students learning by making tutorial videos
Students learning through making tutorialvideos
• Identify key concepts to teach• Think like a teacher – plan the sequence of the lesson• Write a script – most of us don’t ad lib well• Think about visuals – what will they see? Narration On screen “In this video I will teach prime Definition in notepad w/ large font – factorization” give time to read “Let’s begin by looking at a simple Switch window to SMART example…” Notebook, black pen selected. Etc. Etc.
• For drawing: Paint, SMART Notebook…• For writing: Notepad or Word• Draw, write, move shapes: SMART Notebook• Show any file: images, video, slideshows…• Switch windows: Alt+Tab (PC) or Cmd + Tab (Mac)
• Succinct = good (5 minute limitation for screenr videos)• Don’t write long text during recording – you probably can’t write & talk fluently at the same time, anyway• Smallest possible screen capture area - but no smaller• I have a pause button , and I’m not afraid to use it!
• Enter a description of what you made• Where do you publish to? • Screenr.com • Export to YouTube – larger audience• How do you share it? • Link on blog, wiki, Google Document… • Embed in portal, wiki or blog…• Share all student tutorials in one location – a large collection is exponentially more useful than single videos scattered all over the place
