Dsquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten are all set to diversify from couture to culinaire this September with the launch of their fine dining restaurant atop the label’s headquarters in Milan. Few details are being given away about this restaurant venture on Via Ceresio 7, but word is that the brothers are collaborating with Storage studio for the architectural layout, which reportedly will include two pools! Interiors will be done with Dimorestudio, and Elio Sironi, former Bulgari Hotel chef, will head the kitchen. Given the playful and wacky themes of the brand’s catwalk shows–Amazonian forests, 30s parties, Glastonbury-esque summer festivals–diners can look forward to the unexpected this fall in Milan.

Fashion & Food

  1. 1. Fashion & Food Dsquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten are all set to diversify from couture to culinaire this September with the launch of their fine dining restaurant atop the label’s headquarters in Milan. Given the playful and wacky themes of the brand’s catwalk shows– Amazonian forests, 30s parties, Glastonbury-esque summer festivals–diners can look forward to the unexpected this fall in Milan.
  2. 2. Dsquared2 is following in the footsteps of trendsetting fashion houses Armani, Bulgari and Trussardi, which have all made successful forays into the food and beverage industry. Armani, in particular, struck gold with the Emporio Armani Cafe concept, which has 19 outlets worldwide, serving quite an impressive range of hors d’oeuvres, sandwiches, desserts and beverages. Armani is also into confectionery, selling Armani Dolci in its cafes and lifestyle stores. The most refined and decadent of Armani’s dining experiences can, of course, be found at the restaurants at the Armani Hotel Milan, and Dubai.
  3. 3. While Bulgari hasn’t entered the uber chic cafe market in as big a way as Armani yet, it offers a host of fine dining options through its luxury hotels and resorts in Milan, London and Bali and restaurants and cafes in Tokyo and Osaka. Il Ristorante at the Bulgari Ginza tower, which hosts the largest Bulgari store in the world, is a 5-star Italian restaurant offering contemporary and innovative cuisine combining local and imported ingredients. Il Cafe at the Omotesando and Osaka stores offers handmade chocolates as well as light Italian fare in a stylish terrace garden set-up with teak umbrellas and wrought iron elements.
  4. 4. Trussardi operates Il ristorante Trussardi alla Scala, right next to La Scala opra house and facing the Piazza della Scalla in Milan. The restaurant offers a relaxed-chic dining experience presided over by award-winning executive chef Luigi Taglienti, who uses avant garde techniques to reinterpret traditional Italian gastronomic delights. These techniques, and the showmanship behind the food can be seen in all its glory thanks to the open kitchen plan of the restaurant, which adds another dimension to the dining experience. Although fashion and food may seem incompatible at first sight, given the overexposure of skinny models, fashion moghuls are fast realising the value of the lucrative gourmet food and beverage market. Keep the concept cafes and chic restaurants rolling out, we say!
