  2. 2. Copy Development Slogan ideas: -‘’Be a different you, drink IRN-BRU 32’’ -‘’IRN-BRU 32, pushes you through’’ -‘’IRN-BRU 32, gives you the energy to do’’ -‘’The energy drink that lasts’’ -‘’Pass the Barr, drink IRN-BRU 32’’ -‘’Energy in a drink’’ -‘’Its time to try 32’’ -‘’The only energy drink that’ll do’’ -‘’Energy for the explosive’’ -’’The drink for you’’ -‘’IRN-BRU 32, brings out the best in you’’ -‘’Great tasting stimulation’’ -‘’The only energy drink that counts.’’ -‘’IRN-BRU 32, what will it make you?’’ -’’IRN-BRU 32, what will it make you do?’’ -’’Same taste sensation, with an added kick’’ -’’The only drink worth having’’ -’’Its orange, why wouldn’t you?’’ -’’IRN-BRU 32, its in the can!’’ -’’IRN-BRU 32, no kilt required’’ The slogan ideas that are in red are the ideas I have narrowed them down to. I like them because they all relate to the product and =are individual, they could each also be used on different advertising products, which makes them versatile.

  6. 6. Font Experiments Experiments with the number ‘32’ in different styles of font. I want the 32 to stand out from the rest, so having it in a cracked or broken looking font will help me to do this.
  7. 7. Font Experiments-Readability I conducted five different readability experiments, testing how easily you could read the words ‘INR-BRU’. I used the three colours that I intend to use on my products, orange, silver and blue. I found that you could easily read each colour when matched with a different one, for example the orange text is very easy to read on both the blue and grey backgrounds, but orange is difficult to read on a blue background as it appears to get a shadow around the text when you read it. I then looked at a black text on each colour and found that as expected it was easy to read. I then decided to try out two very different colours than what I am using on the backgrounds, I chose yellow and green as they are both colours that are similar to that of orange and blue, I found that yellow was easy to read on blue and orange but not on grey, and green was only hard to read on blue. Throughout these experiments, I have found that a blue background is possibly the harder colour to read from, as depending on the colour of the text, it can gain a shadow on the outline of the copy. Due to this, I am not going to use a background of blue at all, and use either silver or orange as a background colour for my text to go on. IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU IRN-BRU
  8. 8. Product Development Can shape/size For the packaging design, I can choose to use either tall, thinner can or a standardized shorter and more wider can. The shorter can is the one that is more commonly used, for example Coca Cola have used this size can since they started. Whereas a thinner and taller can is more unusual, but typical for energy drinks, this type of can is used by both RedBull and Relentless. I think that I will use a smaller and wider can because its more unusual to see an energy drink in this sized can, which ill help attract people to the product. Tall, thinner can Short, wider can
  9. 9. Product Development Colour design on the can Full orange can Bright and eye catching, but I think that it might be to similar to the IRN-BRU can that is already being produced. Full blue can Unusual colour choice for a can, would stand out on a shelf. Is very different from current IRN-BRU products but the continuity is shown through the blue. Full silver can Silver would be simple I think, it doesn’t jump out at you and could easily just look like a regular can.
  10. 10. Product Development Colour design on the can Orange fading into blue Silver fading into blue After looking at 3 cans with the entire can being in one colour, I decided to try two colours on the can, but instead of them looking separate I wanted them to be blended in with one another. I did 4 different colour combinations to see which ones I liked the most, and using the blur tool on Photoshop I created a rough idea of what I waned them to look like. A wanted them to look dip died, having the two colour blend with each other. I felt that once id done this it didn’t look enough to base it form, Blue fading so I chose to put ‘IRN-BRU 32’’ in the centre of the can, which is into orange in a similar position to where I want it to be on the final product. When looking at the four rough designs, I can see that the orange and blue go well with each other both ways, where as the grey and blue look very dark and not very eye catching. I think that the orange and grey stand out but the grey makes it look darker. If I were to create my packaging now, I would used the orange fading into the blue, because it catches the audiences eyes and the fades down to dark, the dark will also help to make the ‘32’ Silver fading stand out if it is done either silver or orange as it is a strong into orange
  11. 11. Product Development Basic designs In this can design I like the way that the rough looking font of the 32 stands out against the dark blue of the can. I think its good because it shows clearly that the product is different from other IRN-BRU products. In this design, I like the way that the 32 is on a red explosion, making it stand out even further from the can itself. I chose to do the explosion in red because red is a bright and eye catching colour that stands our on both blue and orange. In this can design, I chose to abandon the blended colours for the can itself and use blue all over, I then added a orange and yellow explosion and placed the ‘32’ on top of that. I really like this design because it interesting and fun to look at but feel that it is similar to other energy drink packaging out there at the moment. I decided to make the entire can orange for this design, I then added spikes coming from the bottom of the can with the ‘32’ on top of them in grey. I don’t like this design at all as it feels cluttered and messy and I don’t think that the orange can works very well.
  12. 12. Product Development Basic designs Idea 1 Idea 2 Idea 3 Idea 4 Idea 5 Each of these five designs have the three main colours I want to use on them, orange, blue and silver. When I was creating these designs, I found that the silver doesn’t work well with what I wanted, so I decided to use white which I found lightened the design and fitted better with the overall look of the can. I like the way that idea 3 stands apart because of the silver can and coloured details, but I also really like the way that idea 4 is unique and interesting to look at, even if it does look a little cluttered. Idea 1 is also a favorite, but I think its because of the font used for ‘thirty two’ and not the design itself, also I like the way I’ve spelt out 32 instead of using numbers. I think that ideas 2 and 5 are the weakest of the designs, because they don’t have much going on and appear quite plain. I wouldn’t buy them if I were in a shop looking at them, which I think is a big part, you need to be able to want to buy the product you’ve created yourself or no others will want to.
