• Notice the reduction in bacterial population at the end of a week, proof that the bacteria eventually reduce in number in proportion to amount of oil present in the environment.
  • If you have several points, steps, or key ideas use multiple slides. Determine if your audience is to understand a new idea, learn a process, or receive greater depth to a familiar concept. Back up each point with adequate explanation. As appropriate, supplement your presentation with technical support data in hard copy or on disc, e-mail, or the Internet. Develop each point adequately to communicate with your audience.

Cleanup of Soil After a Residential heating oil Spill in PA

About 50 gallons of heating oil spilled

Cleanup did not remove fumes

Soil and ground water were impacted

Sprayed once with product

In 21 days the VOCs were reduced effectively and even after 12 months the VOC were in BDL

    6. 6. Results Before and After
    7. 7. Cleanup of contaminated soil in a shipyard in VA

The shipyard was planning expansion

The soil was impacted with hydrocarbons

The ground water showed presence of free product

It was not possible to excavate as the site was on the river

VA DEQ recommended that AgroRemed is used for the cleanup

    8. 8. The test site Overview of the site Application of AgroRemed
    9. 9. Results after 4 months

Focus of the project was to prevent groundwater contamination

Periodical examination showed that the levels of free product was more

The free product that was less than 10 th of an inch was now more than 12 feet

139 gallons free product was pumped out

Mobilization of oil was attributed to AgroRemed

There is no free product in the ground water now

    10. 10. Cleanup of contaminated soil at a terminal in VA

An oil terminal had a long history of contamination

The first incident was recorded in 1991

The levels of contamination was high both in soil and ground water

Routine cleanup protocol was followed

In 2005 one more complaint was filed

In 2006 AgroRemed was studied as a pilot

    11. 11. Results after 3 weeks

The pilot study was for 3 weeks only

Two samplings were made

After 10 days

After 20 days

There was more than 30% reduction in 10 days

The reduction after 20 days was more than 95%

Use of AgroRemed was recommended

    12. 12. Restoration of vegetation after a highway spill

100 g. diesel and 10 g. motor oil was spilled on Rte 522 in VA

The grass alongside the embankment was killed

Vegetation below the embankment was denuded

Excavation was not possible

After 49 days, it was decided by V DOT to use AgroRemed for cleanup

    13. 13. The site before application of AgroRemed The grass seeds were planted immediately after spray with AgroRemed near the guard rail. Fresh grass began to grow in a weeks time. The vegetation on the right had received a greater impact of the spill. The TPH of the soil was 65,000 ppm. TPH was reduced in less than 3 weeks time to 26,000 ppm after first application of AgroRemed. At the end 3 months the TPH was less than 850 ppm and the vegetation began to grow healthily
    14. 14. Cleanup of highway spill with AgroRemed in West Virginia

75 gallons of diesel spill on a WV highway

The spill was more on the embankment near the guard rail

Conventional excavations were not possible because of utility lines

Some of the unmarked utility lines were broken during excavations

WVDEP agreed that in situ treatment is the only available option

    15. 15. Application of AgroRemed TPH of the soil was 47,000 ppm. Gravel was brought for fresh fill and the soil was treated with AgroRemed. Conditions along the road requires multiple application and at the end of 61 days, the TPH of the soil at the 4 monitoring site was less than 500 ppm and in one site it was below detectable limits
    16. 16. Damage to Asphalt by Diesel It was pointed by VDOT during discussions that asphalt is very permeable to diesel and hence can affect the life of the pavement. We tried to do some research and there was only one report available on the effect of diesel on asphalt. According to this report Resilient modulus of core samples was reduced by half in 2 weeks time due to the dissolution of binder by diesel in the asphalt. In wheel tracker test, the maximum rut depth of 15.35 mm was recorded for diesel saturated slabs in 2 hours time.
    17. 17. Benefits of AgroRemed in highway spills

It is available in a ready to use liquid form so easy to apply.

Treatment is on site and non-invasive

Reduces the contamination aggressively and in one spill situation TPH of 45,000 was reduced to 93 ppm in 3 weeks time

Effectively de-toxifies soil and so favors growth of plants and other life.

Generally a one time application

    18. 18. Advantages of Bioremediation

Causes minimal disturbance to site operations

Simple in operation and monitoring

Low energy approach

Produces no waste

Remediates petroleum contamination at site

Low capital and operating costs

Bacteria die a natural death if oil is not available

    19. 19. Customer Profile

Emergency response companies

Air ports

Marinas

Environment companies

Heating oil companies

Home owners

DOT (End User)

    20. 20. Additional Questions

What happens to the oil eating bacteria after the oil is consumed?

    21. 21. Bacteria Die a Natural Death When Oil Is Consumed: No Disposal 286 mg/L TPH Immediately 25.8 mg/L TPH (After a Week)
