  6. 6.  Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air. There are different ways to express humidity. I will go over the two most common ways which are the relative humidity and the dew point. The relative humidity is the amount of moisture in the air as a percentage of the most moisture that could be in the air at a certain temperature. If the air has half the amount of moisture it could have then the relative humidity is 50%. When it is raining or snowing and the maximum amount of moisture has evaporated into the air then the relative humidity will be at 100%. The relative humidity tends to be highest in the morning since cooler air can not evaporate as much moisture as warmer air. In weather forecasting, the humidity aloft is often more important than the humidity at the surface. When the relative humidity is 100% through a deep layer of the atmosphere and air is rising then precipitation will occur. A relative humidity above 80% will feel humid especially in mild or warm air. A relative humidity below 30% will feel dry. INDUS THERMAL SYSTEMS
  7. 7.  Another popular expression of humidity is the dew point. This is the temperature that the relative humidity will be 100% when air is cooled. When air cools the relative humidity will increase. It will continue to increase as the air cools until it reaching the saturation point. Morning dew is common in humid places in the morning. This occurs from air cooling to the dew point and further cooling results in condensation. The temperature will always be greater than or equal to the dew point. When the temperature is equal to the dew point then the relative humidity is 100%. The dew point is a good indicator for noting how dry or muggy it feels outside. Dew points of 60 F or higher will feel muggy. Dew points less than 40 F along with the temperature greater than 70 F will feel dry. Dew point is a popular measure in weather forecasting since it is used to be able to tell how much moisture a storm could have.   9. 9.  Cooling the air - vapor condensation In a cooling system the humidity is reduced by cooling the air below dew point. A part of the moisture in the air is condensed and drained out. In an adsorption system the humidity is reduced with an adsorbent material as silica gel or activated alumina. Adsorption is a physical process in where. Moisture is condensed and held on the surface of the material. Without any change of in the physical or chemical structure of the material.   11. 11.  Moisture will not condense on a surface if the air in contact with it has a dew point lower than the surface temperature. Hazards directly attributed to condensation are experienced in areas such as health & safety, integrity of electrical equipment, product quality, packaging and material handling.   12. 12.  Corrosion rate of iron and steel will be dramatically reduced if the air in contact with the surface is maintained below 50%RH - it is eliminated by reducing to 40%RH.Dehumidification is often more effective and less expensive than conventional methods of preservation (egg: surface treatments).   14. 14.  The quality of drugs, powders, dried food, confectionery and other hygroscopic materials can only be maintained during production if it is kept in contact with air at a low relative humidity.   16. 16.  Room dehumidifiers, like a PARKOO Dehumidifiers work much like air conditioners; warmer, moist air enters the dehumidifier and then crosses refrigerant cooled coils, causing the moisture in the air to condense on coils within the machine. The moisture then collects in a drip pan or bucket for disposal while the air is slightly reheated before being discharged. The reheat process is done by capturing and using heat generated from the energy spent to cool the air. By being slightly warmed, the air exiting the dehumidifier is dry and warm - which means it will attract moisture like a magnet and maximize the dehumidifiers efficiency. INDUS THERMAL SYSTEMS
