Need
Need
to name this project/resource.
to focus test/pilot at some Long
Term Care homes, and modify based on
feedback.
4. Oral Health in Long Term Care
Two significant holistic values:
1.
Use of the term “oral health team”
(OHT) throughout resource. OHT may
include two or more health
professionals – such as physician,
dentist, nurse, dental assistant, dental
hygienist, dental therapist, denturist,
care aids, speech-language
pathologist, nutritionist, etc.
5. Oral Health in Long Term Care
•This
allows processes to be flexible for
each LTC home.
•As
each home has different needs,
staffing and programs, modifications can
be made that suit the home.
6. Oral Health in Long Term Care
2.
The reality is that family members are
often the ones providing oral care for
their loved one:
Do they know what to look for?
Do they know how to do oral care?
Do they know what dental resources are
needed?
7. Oral Health in Long Term Care
Residents and family members need to be
included when providing training/learning
sessions on oral health. They are part of
the team.
This approach allows flexibility, and may
make oral health in Long Term Care more
“doable” for Long Term Care home staff.
